FOODlog #1284: Turmeric Fried Chicken

Ayam Goreng Kunyit was one of my first Malay dishes I ever had. It's basically chicken pieces that's marinated with turmeric powder and some chili powder, then deep fried along with some vegetables like onions, carrots, and long beans.

Fast forward to 20+ years later, it's one of those dishes that I never really get tired of having. Some recipes use curry powder to add more depth to the dish but I like it the simplest of ways and keeping it traditional with just turmeric powder and chili powder.

We had this for our staff dinner the other day, cooked by my sous chef. She also made a sambal kacang & Ikan bilis potato dish that was really delicious too!

Typically paired with white rice but I had mine with fried eggs instead as I'm cutting down on carbs in my diet. Super delicious and a very nostalgic meal and satisfying meal.
