Hello everyone!
There is something incredibly peaceful about looking up at the night sky, the twinkling lights scattered across the darkness it’s rrally a moment of stillness in a world that never stops moving, a quiet reminder that there is so much more beyond our everyday worries. A reminder of how small we are, yet how deeply connected we are to something greater. For me, stargazing is a let’s say some kind of a ritual, a way to disconnect from reality and reconnect with something beyond our senses.
Let me take you on a journey through my love for the night sky, the emotions it stirs, and the lessons it teaches :).
One of my favorite places to admire the stars is Žumberak. Away from the city lights, the sky there transforms into a breathtaking canvas of twinkling constellations, meteor showers, and the occasional shooting star. But to be honest, I do it everywhere I can :). At a night rally (lmao I do be scared as hell of animals), during summer vacations, or if the sky is at my side, I always take a moment to stop and look up. One of my most cherished memories is lying on the beach this past summer, just after a concert. I remember coming to the hotel still filled with joy and excitement, the sky was absolutely beautiful and I decided to go the beach (it was right in front of the hotel). I went after the summer season and there were no people which was amazing :). The sky was a masterpiece!!!!! The sky stretching endlessly above me, dark, and dotted with countless stars. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore, the salt in the air.. it all felt almost unreal. I remember thinking, “This is what pure magic feels like.” In that moment, all my worries faded away, and I was completely present, soaking in the beauty of the universe.
It’s in these moments that I feel most alive, most connected to the world around me :).
Unfortunately, in Zagreb, the night sky isn’t the same… :(. The stars are often hidden behind a veil of light pollution and other things… All I can see is the moon and, if I’m lucky, a few bright stars here and there.. It’s frustrating knowing that such beauty is hidden from so many people simply because of the way we’ve built our world. It makes me wonder: Where does it end? How can there be nothing beyond it? WHat do you mean there’s nothing!? It’s such a simple word with such a big question!?” What lies inside a black hole? These questions fill me with both wonder and fear. We’re so small in the Universe, yet we act as though we own the planet. We pollute, destroy, and exploit, forgetting that this ++Earth is a gift++ - one that future generations may not get to enjoy if we don’t change our ways. We stress over so much, constantly worrying about problems that will eventually fade into nothing. The universe is infinite, and here we are.
As a child, I loved finding shapes in the stars, constellations, animals, and even imaginary creatures! To this day, I still do it😆. It’s a simple joy, but one that reminds me of the wonder and curiosity we often lose as we grow older :). I was lucky enough to see a meteor with my own eyes and even luckier to capture it in a photo!
Sitting outside past midnight, waiting for that flash across the sky, was worth every second. One of the most breathtaking celestial events I’ve witnessed is the Tears of St. Lawrence, also known as the Perseid meteor shower. This annual event occurs every August when the Earth passes through the debris left by Comet Swift Tuttle (I think😆). As these tiny particles burn up in our atmosphere, they create streaks of light across the sky. It feels like the universe is putting on a show just for us.
My friend ran the picture through a software that can recognize constellations and shapes of the stars :)
The name “Tears of St. Lawrence” comes from the Christian tradition, as the meteor shower coincides with the feast day of St. Lawrence, a martyr who was said to have been executed on August 10th. Legend has it that the shooting stars are his tears, falling from the heavens. Whether you believe the legend or not, there’s no denying the beauty of this natural phenomenon.
My biggest dream is to see the Aurora Borealis one day. I’ve already seen the Milky Way with my naked eye, something I never thought possible, so maybe anything can happen :). The Universe is full of wonders, and we’re lucky to witness even a small part of it.
This is a map of the night sky from Žumberak :)
The night sky is a source of endless wonder, a reminder of both our insignificance and our connection to the cosmos. It brings me peace, joy, and even fear, but above all, it fills me with gratitude!! So tonight, if you can, step outside :). Look up :). ++Let the stars remind you of the magic that exists in the world and within you. And remember, no matter how dark things may seem, there’s always a little light shining somewhere, waiting to guide you home. Take a step back, look up at the sky, breathe in the night air, and remember that in a few decades, none of this stress will matter.++
