February is the most bred month of the year, it's filled with warmth and love, making it feel like home. Every Valentine's Day, Black History Month, or any other day is a time to slow down and appreciate the small things in life. That's an opportunity to rekindle friendships, develop self-love and enjoy companionship. Despite the shorter duration of days, February is an occasion when people can unify, whether through simple acts of kindness or large gestures of affection. The message encourages us to acknowledge both the pleasure of bonding and self-reflection. Despite its limited appearance on the calendar, February leaves us with an immeasurable legacy of heartwarming events, optimism, and promise.

Hello everyone! Welcome to another episode of our blog. Today, I want to share with you my experience during Valentine's Day, since we all know February is the month of love for everyone, not just for couples, but also for single ladies out there. Stay tuned!

During my college days, I remember our student council preparing a huge heart that was open to all nursing students who wanted to take a picture. As you can see in this photo, we were all so happy celebrating Valentine’s Day together with my friends. I’m grateful to have had this kind of friendship during college because they made even the most exhausting days bearable, even though we weren’t all in the same block.

This made me realize that you don’t need to fall in love to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We have our friends and family to celebrate with as well. For me, Valentine’s Day isn’t about couples, chocolates, or flowers; it’s about feeling loved by everyone who surrounds you. I am forever grateful to have friends who celebrated this Valentine’s Day with me.

Before, when my boyfriend and I were in a long-distance relationship since I was in Cebu City and he was in Agusan del Norte, I made sure to find ways to show him how much I appreciated him. Since we were apart, I asked his brother and cousin for help in arranging a surprise: a bucket of Chicken Joy from Jollibee and his favorite Burger Champ. I also had them write a note to make him feel my presence. I remember his reaction at first, he was shy because he said it was the first time he’d ever received such a gesture. But eventually, he always thanked me for everything. I told him to share the surprise with his brother and cousin, too, so they could enjoy it together and celebrate Valentine's Day.

Just last year, since he was living in Cebu City for work, he decided to treat me in advance for Valentine’s Day. We dined at Paku-Paku Unlimited Chicken, located at Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City. I initially thought he was just craving chicken, but he told me we were celebrating Valentine’s Day early since we both had work that day and couldn’t be sure we’d see each other afterward. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I was so happy to enjoy my comfort food, chicken, but even more grateful to be with him, sharing a meal and reflecting on all we had achieved together.

On Valentine’s Day, I decided to buy him a sweet gift, brownies. I believe that even though boyfriends may tell us not to buy anything for them on that day, girls have pride too. For me, it means I didn’t want to end Valentine’s Day without giving my partner a gift. Giving gifts is one of my love languages, and I’m glad he loved it. However, it doesn’t mean that if your boyfriend gives you something, you feel obligated to give something in return. It’s always up to you whether you give a gift or not. In my case, even if I didn’t give him anything, his presence alone means more to me than anything else.

He never let Valentine’s Day end without giving me flowers. Before I went to work, I was surprised to find that he had bought me fresh flowers with a foam bear on top. I was teary-eyed when I received them. Yes, I’ve seen many of my friends receive chocolates, flowers, and bears, but I didn’t expect anything for myself because I already thought we had made our Valentine’s Day memorable by going to the restaurant and enjoying a surprise meal. Yet, I was wrong. He made me feel like I truly deserved that beautiful bouquet of flowers. And to be honest, this was my first time receiving flowers from someone I loved after being single for over five years. I believe it was truly a prayer answered by God.

It wasn’t just the bouquet of flowers, but what really made my heart melt was when he danced with me to our favorite song. That moment made me cry. I never imagined experiencing something like this in my life, it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Sometimes, I find that my dreams are slowly being fulfilled. He always treats me like a queen and respects me for who I am, and for that, I’m forever grateful to him.

In celebration of Love Month, I hope that everyone spreads love to those around them. Whether you have a partner or you’re a single lady, always remember that you deserve love. Valentine’s Day is not just for couples; it’s for everyone who invests in love. If you don’t have a partner, at least you have your family, who is always there for you. Always remember that Love Month is not about gifts; it’s about the presence of love and affection toward everyone. Just like the One Direction said “to be loved and to be in love.”🤞
