Lagos City in Nigeria is one of the biggest cities in the country, with over 11 million people living in it. Lagos is also called the New York City of Nigeria because of how industrious the city is and how busy it is. Today, I’ll be sharing with you all my journey through Lagos City and how my day went.
I woke up this morning to a phone ringing nonstop. By the time I looked at my phone, it was my dad who was calling. After we finished talking, he instructed me to come over to his place in the city to pick up some gadgets and food items I would bring home. I got up from my bed, took a took a bath, and started my journey without eating. Our home is on the outskirts of the city, and dad only comes home during the weekend. After I stepped out of the house, getting to the bus stop was one hell of a journey. I was thinking of how far the bus stop was, but I guess my luck was strong. I saw a tricycle heading my way, so I stopped it and got in.
After I got to the bus stop, I walked towards the bus terminal and saw why Lagos City is the most populated state in Nigeria. I got to the Ikorodu bus stop and met a long queue of people waiting for the arrival of another bus. I got in line and joined the waiting crew.
It was really stressful to get a bus. I had to stand for hours in a queue that was moving so slowly before I could even see the bus. The queue was so long that we had to queue behind the bus station.
After standing for another hour, I began to get hungry, and the countenance on my face changed. There was this woman selling meat pie who kept passing in front of me because she saw how I looked at the meat pie anytime she passed. I couldn’t even buy anything because I was being careful with my transportation fee. I wasn’t too worried because I could see the bus and I'd be on it soon.
I was so hungry and sad at the same time; even the man standing behind me was sad too. 30 minutes later, it was my turn to get on the bus, and I was in. I sat down and took a deep breath of relief. My legs were rejoicing because they would finally rest. I wanted to take a selfie inside the bus, but I was feeling shy because of the people around me. I looked at my right and left to see if anyone was watching me, but then, we are in Lagos, and we are free to do what we like.
One thing about public transport is that, after all the seats have been occupied by passengers, the bus conductor will still bring people into the bus to stand so they can get to their location on time. They are for people who don’t wish to sit.
The journey into the city was interesting because the women sitting behind me kept gossiping about another woman whom they knew. A lot was said, so I just put on my AirPod to free my mind from their poison. I finally got to a part of the city, and I had to cross a bridge. It was a long bridge, so I took the opportunity to get as many shots as I could before proceeding to my destination.
After I got down from the bridge, I had to take a short bus to the estate where my dad lives. The bus driver collected his money before leaving the bus stop, which made me believe he would take me to my destination, but when we got close to my destination, he changed his route and dropped me off at a place where I would have to walk again to my destination. He apologized because he had carried other passengers going to a different destination. I was pained, but I had no choice but to get down and do the walking. While walking through the streets of Lagos, I took some shots too.
I had to walk a long distance before I got to the estate. It was a beautiful place, and the houses there were so nice. I was at the gate, but my dad wasn’t home; he already gave instructions to his security to let me in. After I got in, I slept for some minutes, prepared noodles before picking up everything I needed, and then started my journey back home. I took a picture of the building opposite his and a selfie on the street to his place.
Anyway, the journey back home is almost exactly as it was going to his place. I got home, showered, and slept off because I was so tired, and that concluded my journey through the city of Lagos. Thank you.
