Is it really Monday? From Friday til now I have worked three days at the bakery, had a game night, a birthday dinner night for my Pa, and a goodbye back to the Marines party for a dear kiddo who's like my own.
I'm pretty sure I lost a day in there somewhere.
Anyway, part of yesterday's festivities included a couple of interesting desserts that I am pretty proud of. Since the temperature yesterday was like 104 Fahrenheit or so, I planned ahead and made an ice box cake and an ice cream sandwich cake.
Both cakes disappeared, so I am reasonbly sure they were more than okay. The ice cream sandwich cake was especially delectable.
I started with a layer of ice cream sandwiches.
Then I spread a layer of whipped topping on them.
Next I drizzled hot fudge and caramel ice cream topping on the whipped topping.
Then I repeated the layers.
But it was what I put on top of the cake that really clinched the tastiness deal, I threw two gigantic Butterfinger bars into my food processor, pulsed until they were crumbs, and sprinkled the crumbles on top of the last whipped topping layer.
It was more than acceptable to the herd.
The ice box cake was similar in awesomeness. I made it for the folks who were looking for something a bit lighter. I started with a layer of cinnamon sugar graham crackers, then I whipped cream with a tiny bit of powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and spread some of that on top of the grahams.
Then I put a layer of sliced strawberries.
On the next layer of grahams and whipped cream I put a layer of bluberries.
And finally on the top layer, I garnished it all pretty. You know, because sometimes I can accomplish stuff like that.
The ice box cake also was not too shabby and disappeared.
Another thing that disappeared was hair.
Yep, hair.
The reason for last night's festivities is that one of our kids, a boy my hubs has coached in rifle for a decade or so, just graduated Marine bootcamp and was home on leave before heading back for infantry training at Camp Pendleton. His hair was far too long and needed a shaving before reporting for duty.
So, the clippers were removed from my closet.
The resulting hair cutting shenanigans was something for the memory book. My son absolutely butchered C's head, I mean, at one point he looked like a Lego figurine. My daughter and I stepped in and smoothed things over, and C eventually looked like a buzz cut grunt again.
And my son, him being a bruh and all, offered up his own lustrous locks as a means of balancing the scales.
That's right, all the boy's hair was buzzed off.
Well, except for a very long skunk strip that all the kids (there were like 8 of them in my kitchen), delighted in turning it into a mohawk and then some sort of Viking-like braid strip.
I didn't see that part, I went to bed as I head a bakery to run in the morning, but apparently the hubs shaved the rest of the boy's hair off before he went to work this morning.
It truly is never dull around here.
And I wouldn't have it any other way. While things seem a bit wild and wacky out in the existential ether, good old Life is happening all around us. Those kids sent off their buddy in the most fun way possible, and it did my soul more than a modicum of good to be a part of their joy and mirth.
It’s indeed never a dull moment with you over there
You’re having a good time
Very much a good time indeed!

Wow, I think both cakes look delicious. The Butterfinger topping on the ice cream cake is a great idea.
Thank you so much! And yes, the Butterfinger topping on the ice cream sandwich cake made something already good that much better! I hope you get to try it sometime!
