Down the road from me a bit, on the other side of Farragut State Park, lies the little burg of Bayview, Idaho. I'm a big fan of the town, mainly because it reminds more than a bit of southeast Alaska. Basically, its a very deep bay (The Navy even has a deep water testing facility there!), jutting peaks surrounding it, and float-houses floating in said bay. It's very picturesque!
With the influx of imports into the area, we have seen a ton of new eating establishments spring up. Me, I adore food, so I am not sad about this development, and one of those new food places is The Dock.
At the bottom of the boatlaunch in Bayview sat a restaurant that has had many different names over the years. Earlier this year I saw that they had given the place a very modern coat of paint and opened it for business. All of the reviews of the grub was positive, especially for the Ahi nachos.
This weekend I was feeling pretty celebratory as it was my last weekend being a baker at the theme park, so when the hubs and I got in the car to go to game night Saturday evening, I suggested trying out The Dock.
I'm so glad I did!
You see, as we walked down the ramp to enter the restaurant, I spied the reader board with the days specials. As soon as my eyes lit on "The Beast of Bayview Burger" I knew what I was eating that night.
I just didn't realize how massive The Beast was going to be.
It was basically a hamburger encased in two grilled cheese sandwiches, slathered in pickles, onion rings, bacon, and even CHEESE CURDS! AHHH!
Full disclosure time, I didn't even make it through half of it. It was so yummy, and I even shared it with the hubs, but between about a third of it and the delicious fries and fry sauce I was beyond stuffed!
What was even nicer was that we got to sit on the dock under an umbrella and listen to some lovely music. A couple kids with a funky guitar played a compilation of everything from Sitting on the Dock of the Bay to folksy covers of all manner of songs.
It truly was a delightful repast!
After a leisurely bill, complete with local and non-local wildlife viewing (If you are ever bored, just hang out and watch the comings and goings of the public boat launch), I went in to pay the bill.
The inside of the restaurant is just as pleasant as the outside, with it's sorta updated rustic nautical vibe. Our waitress was just the sweetest thing, and she and I got into a conversation about food, with it ending that she was going to visit Silverwood the following day and have a croissant.
One sorta sad thing is that The Dock is only open seasonally, which I completely understand, but my sadness was fleeting because my new waitress friend told me that the owners had also opened a restaurant up the street in an old bar that I used to get yummy food at years ago.
The Taverna is apparently scratch-made Italian food and I'm a sucker for Italian food. Okay, I am a sucker for any kind of food, well, except for still living food, that not so much.
Anyway, after how good The Dock's grub was, you can bet that my next foray into the local food landscape will be by gracing the front doors of The Taverna and tucking into some Italian delights. Can't you tell? I'm not excited at all!

I haven't been to Bayview in ages. It might be worth a visit if their menu has some options not laden with cheese like that.
I think they close for the season the 7th, so you have a couple days left! There's also a new Mexican restaurant that just opened down there across from The Taverna, so lots of options. (The fries were amazing btw!)

Hello, what a beautiful place in the mountains. I think the singer is looking hungrily at the beast... hahaha.... kidding.
A friend and I explored Bayview 2 or 3 years ago. I"m told it has grown quite a bit recently. Maybe I should go look. And eat....
