In the third week of June, I officially started my first year as a marketing student. We're almost in the third week of September, so it's nearly three months since I'm used to this setup. I'm already in my sophomore year, and this journey made me feel like I'm roughly 21. I get tired of reviewing, paying, and everything. Therefore, if you wonder why I was away for over a month, it was all because of my studies. It is a good thing that some of my efforts were validated, which I will share in the upcoming parts. But for now, let me give you a sneak peek at my life.
Answering Modules
Compared to other state universities, we are still in the Flexible Learning, where we have two days of face-to-face classes and two days of modular learning. Our university will only implement the full face-to-face classes sooner or later. If the higher positions fully implement the F2F schedule, we will no longer answer our modules, but interactive activities will occur. But since it's not yet fully implemented, we don't have a choice.
Reviewing Lessons
As college students, we have three periods in a semester: prelims, midterm, and finals. And in every period, we have two quizzes and an exam. I usually highlight all the essential details and replace all images with the stress level. And every semester for major subjects, we have a bloody examination where we must take a one hundred-item quiz. And if we fail, we won't pass that subject. It hurts, right?
Studying Copywriting
Since I feel that excelling academically is insufficient to attain my dreams, I'm also taking the course in Copywriting by Alan Sharpe. I saw an ad on Facebook that promised I could already get various courses in Advanced Copywriting, Content Writing, Email Writing, and SEO writing with good reviews, so who am I to pass on that opportunity? And guess what? Doing this made me realize that shifting my career path is a great decision. I'm not yet halfway since I'm struggling with time management, but I'm working on that.
Course Requirements
Aside from modules and exams, we must also comply with various mandated requirements. Gosh, if I just had enough time to document my stress levels, maybe you would make me awe. I was too dedicated to beat my silent battles as I'm pressured andI only want to pass. Let me just give you the things that I've done recently.
- Personal Collection Quota. One of the things that almost made me insane is selling Personal Collection items in compliance with our Professional Salesmanship subject. We are tasked to reach the quota of more than ₱7,000 and create a narrative and sales report. We also need to do a promotional ad for that and i wonder how much our university earned from that partnership.
- Case Study. Aside from selling items and other activities, I also spent my time in doing my parts and practicing how to defend our case study. Luckily, I was not the leader in this course requirement because I already had a lot of things in my plate. I remember how much practice did I do just to master my part, but ended up messing. We were able to defend our case study, and I don't care if I'm not the best since the most important for me is that I passed.
- Product Plan and Defense Plan. Among all the course requirement, this is something that I devoted my time. I'm sleeping at 3AM in order to polish our parts and waking up at 8AM just to continue doing the paper. I was promoted as a leader of this major course requirement, so no doubt how much sleep did I sacrifice just to give a presentable result. It reached my stress level to the highest level due to conflicts, time pressure, and other responsibilities.
Selling in TikTok and Writing Blogs
My mother and uncle sustaining my studies always remind me that I should only focus on studying rather than my side hustles. That's why I decided to be inactive in those platforms, and I'm lucky since those platforms helped me to increase my school allowance. It's still better to think in long term rather than short term. But anyway, thank you as always!
Spending Time With My College Friends
Of course, my life is not only about studies. Maybe you imagined that my life is only about school, side hustles, and repeat. Since developing social skills is important for an individual to survive, I've been starting to work from that. We're all getting tired from our academic responsibilities, but we must not forget that we are also human too! Aside from scrolling in social media, they are also the reason why I'm still mentally stable. Our bonding as friends is data gathering or in colloquial term "gossiping". Not technically gossiping since we're not dragging someone in order to pass.
Rewards and Achievements
Last preliminary term, I was delighted since I got the three highest from the major subject while the second to the highest from a minor subject. The second to the highest is already worth it since I got it among the It is such a rewarding experience for me since all my efforts were paid off. When I first saw my professor's post, I was totally mindblowned but already expected it at the same time. I remember that after the exam, I was always called the highest during the exams. Sometimes, they get irritated since they only hear my name. I can't promise that I would be consistent from that position, but I am willing to retain my Dean's Lister title or better if I get the Latin Honor degree.
That's just a sneak peek of my life as a marketing student. I always keep in mind that it's okay if you feel tired and you want to rest. Never give up, but never let ourselves to be drained too much. That's just my mantra for this blog, and thank you by the way!
