Time flies...
Without realising, my husband and I had become parents for 14 years. Each year passed and I grew in my admiration towards my mother and mother-in-law who had raised the children up well. Happiest blessed 14th birthday to my eldest son. Upon his arrival, my husband and I suddenly upgraded our life, learning more the sense of responsibility as we took care of this precious life. It was such an honour and more years of honor parenting our boy.
My sister-in-law got him a very superb nice frozen Biscoff cheese cake, which she was so kind to ask him beforehand what flavour of cake he wanted. He chose either chocolate or Biscoff. It was so so delicious. Nicely baked frozen cheese cake, that I think I might get it for myself too in upcoming birthdays.
A group photos of all of us! Such a great time together.
We even remade a before-and-after photo of Jayden and Grandma. 1yo versus 14yo.
Dinner together!
Our heartfelt thanks to Mum who cooked us a sumptuous meal to celebrate his birthday as well as eating together to Chap Goh Mei before our Chinese New Year officially ended.
She took time to buy the ingredients, planned out the 'itinerary' of cooking to spread our her energy because it was a lot to prep and a lot to cook actually.
She cooked for us her signature Jiu Hu Char, our Hokkien dish popular in Penang. It was made from shredded turnip, cooked with shredded dried squid, dried prawns, mushrooms. So many work into this dish. We ate this wrapped with lettuce and topped with sambal. So heavenly.
She also cooked for us pork trotter in Hokkien way also, it was so well-braised and stewed. So flavourful that I was initially planning to go without rice, but in the end, I couldn't resist and I asked for rice. Yay!
Next, she cooked for us pepper pork stomach soup with abalone and mushrooms and carrots. She used free-range chicken and the soup was so naturally packed with chicken sweetness, not much seasoning was needed except some salt.
Lastly, she also made for us stir fry leeks with waxed duck, a Hakka dish which my father-in-law really likes. She added in 'ngaku' also. It was super flavourful and naturally salty from the waxed duck. Yums!!!
Just look at our sumptuous dinner! Thank you, Mum!
We all had such great time together and my youngest son especially was happy that he got to carry his cousin sister. Hehe!
School holiday is going to end soon, so we arrange a special stay overnight for the cousins to get together. Moments spent together are always super precious!
Happy birday!
Congrats to him!!!
Your mother outdid herself in the kitchen once again! Such a sumptuous feast! Birthday greetings to your son. The time does fly, doesn't it? I love the pictures of him with Grandma, as an infant and now. It's nice the cousins could have a sleepover. That little girl is adorable.
