Super early Chinese New Year Dinner Gathering

in Daily Blog2 days ago

My Chinese New Year started earlier this year on 27th January, two days before the official Chinese New Year commenced. It was a gathering with my father's side of relatives, those who were around Kuala Lumpur. Most of my father's relatives are at Penang but a group of them have been residing in Kuala Lumpur for decades. It is my father's second eldest brother's side of family. And every year, my this Uncle makes it a point to have a great Chinese New Year treat for us.*

Dinner at Noble Mansion

This year he chose Noble Mansion to be our dinner gathering. Let's!!!

I didn't take a lot of photos because I wanted to respect the elderly to be present and not just attending the phones. So, there were not a lot of photos ya. But of course, I took the food photos although the orangey lightings made the photos too orange-hue.

First and foremost, Happy Chinese New Year from the Lee Clan!!!

Food we had!

Firstly, a must-have for every Chinese New Year eating is the Yee Sang, a dish which symbolises prosperity and abundance. Ours was high grade raw salmon yee sang, very well-plated and the ingredients were superb. Usually, it was drizzled with lime sauce which lime also symbolises good fortune or good luck.

Each of us would be given a special long chopsticks for this purpose. What we would do was we would dig and mix and toss the ingredients as high to the air as we could, tossing means to let the prosperity and abundance roll and mix into our life. As we do that, the whole atmosphere became super noisy because we would recite all the good blessings as well. It was full of laughter actually. 🥰

Then, came the signature Chinese restaurant soup. This one was some sort of crab meat soup with scallops, super appetising and fulfilling. Usually, we added vinegar into it to make it even more flavourful. Yums!!!

Next, we have Hong Kong roast duck with some keropok. This was so so delicious. The duck meat was roasted to perfection, juicy and with the natural duck sweetness. Wow! I ate a lot of pieces, just so addictive.😁

After that, we had steamed tiger grouper fish with some Chinese-style white mala, very spicy, so I could only taste abit. It had some sourishness which would boost your appetite. My husband super loved it as he could take extra spicy level.

Coming next was the signature Chinese restaurant vegetables. Steamed broccoli with abalone and homemade seaweed tofu, drizzled with Chinese oyster sauce. So so delicious!!!

By the we finished our vegetables, we were all so full already. But the next came up was ....

Rice dish!!!

Steamed glutinous rice with soy-sauxe glazed tiger prawns....wow! We tried our best to 'open up' our stomach to eat somemore. I was glad I wore a dress, so nothing restricted me at the waistline. Lol....

Finally, the food was done — all out!!! But, there were still two more desserts. We were spoiled for taste that night.

One dessert was the Chef's signature pan-fries lotus biscuits and macha cream mochi. They were very special and super delectable. The kids especially loved the macha cream mochi.

Next dessert was sweet cooling sea coconut with honey dew drink. It was my first time came across this combination. Usually restaurants paired sea coconut with longan, but the Chef paired it with refreshing honey dew. Incredibly mouth-watering.

That was how we ended the night, we were all so full. We took very long time to finish our desserts. Before we could eat our desserts, we actually just walked around the three tables and chit chatting, talking about the updates of our life. The elderly kept saying thanking God for each new day, they were saying not sure whether how many more years they can eat together, so it was really precious moments together.

A photo of the table with most elderlies. They are our heroes.
