This morning after my usual Wednesday walk,I prepared for work and quickly stepped out of the house to board motorcycle to the Estate gate to avoid being late to work,I stood along the road for 20 mins,yet I couldn't see any motorcycle, then I decided to keep walking down to the gate slowly. As I walked about 3meters,I heard a car homing at my back,I turned quickly to leave the road for the car to pass so that I can continue my journey.Suddenly the stopped by my side and wined down,it markson;my neighbor and my new friend in the Estate. He quickly told me to Hop in , Happily I did so and we drove off. We crossed the Estate gate and headed towards Lokogoma Junction,I kept quiet because that's my lane, fortunately he was going my way towards the airport junction,but there was serious hold up along Lugbe junction but we didn't spend much time and we left. We agreed to met at Corner shop this evening.When we got to the airport junction , I alighted . I quickly boarded another motorcycle that took me to my place of work.
When I came back home from work in the evening ,I went to our backyard and I was so astonished when I saw my sick mum weeding our scent leaf garden. I quickly ran to her and stopped her from doing so because she had been sick since three days ago. I quickly stopped her from weeding. I had wanted to use chemicals on them because I thought it's the most effective and time-efficient method until when my Uncle;Mr. Theophilus discouraged me. He warned against using chemicals even though it's good and the most effective weed control measure but the crops are usually injured or destroyed too by the chemicals, rather he suggested the use of hoes. According to him,"hoes can even dig down to remove the weeds from their roots but be very sure when using hoes that the weeds are removed from the roots else they can easily re-grow when rain falls because small pieces of their roots still remain",He said and his statement made me remember Mr. Okra; my Agricultural tutor in college who taught us that there are other several methods that can be used for weeding.According to him,"Hand ✋ weeding and hoeing(use of hoe) are effective for small gardens like this our garden at home while mulching and Herbicides are effective for larger areas but take precautions when using chemical weeding or herbicides.But don't forget that other methods also exist such as removal of weeds by pulling out with the hand and removal of weeds by tilling." he continued by saying"In the use of tilling method, weeds are removed by uprooting or killing them from their roots before sowing the seeds or planting crops. Tilling is similar to Manual labour but in manual method, weeds are removed by uprooting them which are close to the ground with the use of
implements like trowel, harrow, and hoe which are made of iron and requires regular maintenance to prevent rusting." he said and I remembered he concluded by telling us that "pulling the weeds from their roots with our hands is most effective because desired crops are not destroyed during the process.i quickly dropped the hoe and used my hand to weed.Its the best, just that it's time consuming and requires carefulness too" . I continued working until I got tired and promised my mum that I will complete the work next time.
I rushed quickly to the bathroom and freshened up before walking down the street to hangout with my friends.
When I got to the Corner Shop;our usual spot,I quickly asked one of the Sales girls about my friends; Abel and Markson which he said that they just left the place few minutes ago. I picked up my phone and called Abel's number and he said " We changed the Venue because of a fight broke out at the place and two persons were injured, please come Magama plaza,there is a restaurant and Bar opposite the plaza, please come to that place ,we are there" he explained and I quickly boarded the nearest tricycle to the Estate gate,then I walked down to Lokogoma Junction and boarded another tricycle to Gudu. When I got there, I called Abel who drove out to picked me up. We discussed, ate and drank wine and had merry. Infact we really had fun until 11pm, then we drove back to our Estate to rest against tomorrow's work.
