I was just a bit older than the tare=get audience when Harry Potter was first published, and well above the reading level of my peers. I was deep into Tolkien, and I remember reading Eragon when it first came out in 2002, but despite working as a librarian for over a decade, I still haven't read even Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to say nothing of the other 6 books following after.
