Friday Chronicles: A Day of Errands and Nostalgia

in Daily Blog4 days ago
Last Friday was that typical day when one has to run around to complete all chores, yet on the way, finds a few doses of remembrance and joy. I began going as soon as the sun was up. I went to Parkmall early, knowing the government center would be buzzing with people later in the day. I headed straight to the PAG-IBIG office to process some documents. Not surprisingly, there were already people waiting, and seeing the usual rush of everyone trying to manage bureaucracy made me realize just how much patience this process takes. After I was done with my errand at the government center, I then went to my first workplace as an ESL teacher. I had to ask for a document needed for my current job; however, to be honest, I wanted to see the place again. Huhu, I remember the last day of our work—I really cried. Yeah, of course, walking into those grounds evoked memories that I have not forgotten. I could almost see the vibrant scene from back then, remembering the foreign students walking around, chatting, and laughing. The pavilion was always alive with energy, with students and teachers dancing, exercising, and even bursting into impromptu singing and guitar sessions.

Though my stint here was just less than a month, this place had left a mark on me. It was a job that didn’t feel like work. It seemed like I was just talking to people and enjoying their company every day. I miss my students and the other teachers who I've been friends with. Watching the now-quiet grounds felt odd, huhu. It was like revisiting an old friend who had grown silent over time. The place is so quiet. I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of the chaos, the lively students, and the shared laughs. It made me miss that chapter of my life, brief as it was. I'm grateful for the wonderful experience.

After being lost in the memories of the past, I decided to proceed to the next errand of the day: a visit to the nearby mall, to buy a new mosquito net. I know, it sounds funny, but I’ve been using one since I was a kid, and I just can’t sleep without it. It’s practically a non-negotiable part of my life. Honestly, even if I ever get married, I’ll still bring a mosquito net with me! HAHAHAHA. My future spouse will just be forced to accept the fact. It'll literally be buy 1 take 1.

I also bought two packs of dog food for my furbaby. I didn’t know if his supply at home was almost out, but it is better not to take that risk—he should be pampered during the holidays.

I need to mention that when talking about Christmas, the mall was really full of it. There were Christmas lights and carols on the radio. At the stores, the people were out buying gifts and decorations, and the mood was really lively. That made me realize that the holidays are literally just around the corner—indeed, time goes very fast.

As I also went to Watsons to purchase my favorite perfume, to my surprise, the certain one was out of stock. That's why I instead opted for another one that smelled like sweets and candy. It was not what I expected, but it was at least sweet enough to bring cheer for me.

On my way back home, I bought milk tea for my niece. She was only in the city for the week because she has no classes and had been hinting all week that she wanted milk tea. The feeling she had when I gave it to her made the whole day feel worth it.

At some point, it was a day full of little moments—some nostalgic, some funny, and some just plain ordinary. It reminded me that even on days filled with errands, there’s always something to smile about. :)
