In culling from the traditions and activities of Campus Life, I would like to note the fact that today we have gathered to celebrate the 77th Founding Anniversary of Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges. This day is very joyous and full of fellowship as well as dressing most wonderful talents from students of different departments. Such events are being conducted, due to all business planning and organizational strategizing taking another significance, onsite and offsite activities, which helps to establish, enhance and promote association among the members of the institution.

So as to ensure student participation and to foster creativity among the students, a lot of activities were organized for the students. The morning was especially energetic with the Bench Yell Competition in which every department had a turn to perform as one unit with loud cheers, singing and dancing. This did not only be fellowship participants but there are also people reinvigorating the reason why Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges is considered a suitable environment for varying talents and competitive spirit.

Bench Yell Competition:

The Bench Yell Competition is one of the activities that motivate individual departments through courtesy and respect to work as a team. Some of the participants included students from CBE, CCS, CTE, High School Department, Psychology Program, and the Criminal Justice Education. Every team worked very hard and fully committed themselves to the performance, encapsulated with the rhetoric of their unyielding voices and body movements.

Even with the tough competition, the College of Business Education became the overall winner, finishing first with its captivating display. Their victory was also earned, exhibiting the highest form of artistry, attention to details and zeal.Their success was very motivating and served as a reminder to everyone on the importance of perseverance and hard work.

Being a first-year student and an active participant of the psychology program, I can say that I was privileged to attend this historic occasion. Although we did not get one of the top places, the whole event was very rewarding. It was aimed at uniting the department, and at building friendships and cultivative matters, and patriotic sense about the department. For most of us, this was the first time when we took part in such a national gathering, and it was certainly, a great one.

The Bench Yell Competition was not only a competition; it was an occasion to meet and mingle with other students from different departments, appreciate their art, and bask in the campus’s lively atmosphere. It also served to emphasize team work and togetherness which are very crucial not only when competing but also every day in school and in life.

Later in the day, the most awaited competitions of the day started, which invigorated the entire campus.

First-year college students were creative and coordinated in a P.E. exhibition. This segment was high tension since every squad worked hard on the performance and made sure each gesture was worth the sleepless months of practice. We, the freshers team, put in our utmost effort and pulled every routine as it was meant to be; in style. The audience’s cheers and claps spurred us on even more. Together, we all shared joy and pride at that point.

Disappointed or not, we found great news in the fact that we were able to take the 2nd Runner-Up position.

After all, this was the position we had set our eyes on, and this was also the product of our collective efforts. It was a clear sign that there are achievements that befit a person, and yet he or she can still reach out for more. We could not hide the smiles on our faces after all we regarded this as our great triumph after all the efforts we put in and the experience we gained.

At this point, it was the turn of second-year college students to showcase their talents through the Mass Dancing competition. The audience was also entertained by the rhythm and actions and movement of stories and performances. Within the competitors, the second-year team with their efforts clearly showed worked hard and was able to win the 1st Runner-up title. It was a victory that every one of us took pride in, for it was the fruits of their labors.

The whole afternoon could not be described entirely in terms of the events but rather in terms of togetherness, sports culture, and talent appreciation. For example, in Mass Dancing competition and P.E. demonstration, we saw how all the students worked together and performed beautifully despite the odds against them. Surely, this day will stay in our hearts as a pleasant recollection of togetherness and great accomplishment.
Sync & Slay 2024: Gaya Gaya:

With the attention that it has drawn from many quarters, one competition that played the pivotal role of bringing to a close the day’s events was Sync & Slay 2024: Gaya Gaya. As always, it was very exciting for the waiting students who expected to see a great display of talents. Already, this segment was timely because it called upon individuals to showcase costumes of their choice and recreate the same on stage through a well-woven web of lip synching, dancing and general showmanship. It was not only a competition but also joy of talents, creative ideas and skills of performance.

A sophisticated yet entertaining act was performed by the Psychology Program’s team in a rather daring view of conquering the stage. In this exquisite number Bang Bang that features Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande, the performers aimed to bring the house down. The audience was ensnared since the time the track started. The extension of the performers were perfect as they were all able to impersonate their respective idols, never missing out on any presentation, even the attitude that was essential in portraying the song. The choreography was on point and full of attitude to match the rhythm while their costumes were intricate and enhanced the act such that they looked just like the real singers themselves.

The audience was thrilled to see how easily one performer flew into the high notes of Jessie’s J’s voice and then turned to deliver the rap part of Nicki Minaj before going back to Ariana’s dynamic hooks. The way they devoted themselves to the performance could be felt in every single move, every look-desire and every interaction. There was no doubt that they had invested a great deal of time practicing this performance and the results were astonishingly good.

When the judges crowns the Psychology Program as the Overall Champion of Sync & Slay 2024: Gaya Gaya, the audience went wild. Such a win was long overdue as it not only reflected their amazing skill, but also the capacity to engage and motivate all in attendance. The team’s portrayal of Bang Bang was PG entertainment at its best with great artistic input leaving everyone in awe.

The Psychology Program is simply indelible, attributing this fact to the pulchritude of the evening. For the team, victory meant much more than two words put together, that is, a title, teamwork, hard work, and the love of acting. The image of that performance will definitely stay fresh in memories for many many years to come.
