A week or so ago the International Book Fair was held here in Mexico City at the Palacio de Minería, which is a very beautiful historic building located in the main square of this city, with a neoclassical style architecture according to what I was investigating, and that was built between 1797 and 1813, I was impressed by its very large stairwells and all its surrounding hallways, which were full of stands of bookstores and publishers as well as universities that were selling or promoting their books, it also caught my attention to see many people attending this event and especially many young people, sometimes I have the feeling that this habit of reading is not so popular anymore, but seeing so many people interested in books excited me again.
This fair, like many others held in the city, lasted a week, culminating on Sunday, and also included various activities such as book readings and presentations of works. It is also a good opportunity for people from other fields, such as goldsmiths and textile workers, to travel from other parts of the country to offer their products. This is the case of jewelers and goldsmiths from Taxco (a city where people specialize primarily in beautiful silver work), who came to Mexico City solely to offer their art at this very popular international fair, which is filled with a lot of movement and traffic of both national and international visitors.
I was only able to attend on Sunday, which was the closing day of the event, and I was fortunate enough to witness the presentation of the book "Entre acto: Teatro Inédito y Pública de Elena Garro," a great Mexican writer and pioneer of magical realism, whose work had been, let's say, forgotten or overshadowed. I invite all those who love reading to read her work if you don't know it yet, so that you can enjoy her wonderful writing.
Anyway, I loved going to this international book fair, and I'm sure I'll go to any of the other ones that are open in the city. The vibe and good atmosphere are unique, at least for me, as I'm a book fanatic.
I'm sharing some photos of everything I saw. All photos taken in Mexico City by @majo77 with my Motorola G60s smartphone.
