I recently started working at a publishing house that publishes with UNAM, so I have to go daily to the different faculties and schools with which they have contracted, to verify the projects, and as part of these activities I tour much of the university delighting in artistic works, both murals and jewels of modern architecture, and although I had already seen some in photos, I must say that in person they are majestic.
The Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) is located on a beautiful esplanade with very modern fountains, all in a minimalist style. It always features temporary and some permanent exhibitions. Its façade resembles a spaceship, with sloping stained glass windows and all white, giving the space a sense of modernity and spaciousness. On that same esplanade, there is also an obelisk-shaped structure by the artist Rufino Tamayo called La Espiga (The Spike), which, for me, complements the clean, simple style of the main esplanade.

The truth is that for many years, even before living in Mexico, I have been in love with the work of Juan O'Gorman, the famous Mexican architect who created the impressive mural on the UNAM central library next to the rectory. I think that for some reason there was a postcard with that photo in my house in Venezuela and I always thought it was a beautiful work. This library is an imposing building that has proudly displayed this work of art since 1956, muralism in a very typical artistic format of Mexico, this one in particular tells the history of Mexico, with a strong presence of the god Tlaloc, deity of rain and fertility, depending on my research, each side of the building tells a different historical moment or stage, so the north represents the pre-Hispanic past; the south the colonial; The eastern side is the contemporary world, and the western side is the university and present-day Mexico. I can tell you that its beauty is infinite and incredible. To think that such a large work was completed stone by stone is something very impressive to see. Juan O'Gorman is by far my favorite muralist, and this is his favorite work for me, which is also currently on display in a small scale at his beloved Faculty of Architecture, in a permanent exhibition about the great artist, the pride of UNAM. So, for me, seeing this building almost daily is almost a dream come true.

Another mural that I find incredible is in the Alfonso Caso auditorium in the old Faculty of Sciences, by the author Jose Chavez, called the Conquest of Energy and dates from 1953. It has a force in the vivid colors that catch the attention of passersby who walk through that place. This beautiful mural speaks a little about how civilization advances, leaving behind obscurantism and ignorance, towards the revelation of progress that scientific knowledge can bring.

I also really liked the intervention they did at the School of Cinematographic Arts, with photos by the English photographer Eadweard Muybridge, referring to horses in motion. This work that covers its main staircase gives a lot of energy to the structure of the building, which is very beautiful and modern.
I could really spend hours telling you all about what I've seen, but there are so many that it's hard to summarize them all, and I still have a lot left to see. Here are a few photos I took during these days of long walks and artistic admiration, around this place full of history and knowledge like UNAM. This is a super fun job for me because of the many beautiful things I get to observe and admire every day.

LA BELLEZA QUE ES LA UNAM.
Recientemente empece a trabajar en una editorial que lleva publicaciones con la UNAM por lo que me toca ir a diario a las distintas facultades y escuelas con las que se ha contratado, para verificar los proyectos, y como parte de esas actividades recorro gran parte de la universidad deleitándome con obras artísticas tanto murales como joyas de la arquitectura moderna, y aunque ya había visto algunas en fotos, debo decir que en persona son majestuosas.
El Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), esta en una explanada preciosa con fuentes muy modernas, todo con estilo minimalista que siempre cuenta con exposiciones temporales y algunas permanentes, es su fachada parece de nave espacial, con vidrieras inclinadas y todo en material blanco, que da al espacio una sensación de modernidad y amplitud. En esa misma explanada también hay una estructura en forma de obelisco, del artista Rufino Tamayo llamada La Espiga que complementa para mi, ese estilo pulcro y simple que tiene la explanada principal.
La verdad es que desde hace muchos años antes de vivir en Mexico incluso, he he estado enamorada de la obra de Juan O’ Gorman, famoso arquitecto mexicano que realizo el impresionante mural de la biblioteca central de la UNAM a un costado de la sede de la rectoria, creo que en mi casa en Venezuela por alguna razon habia una postal con esa foto y siempre me parecio una obra hermosa. Esta Biblioteca es un edificio imponente que exhibe orgulloso esta obra de arte desde 1956, el muralismo en un formato artístico muy típico de Mexico, este en particular narra la historia de Mexico, con fuerte presencia del dios Tlaloc deidad de la lluvia y la fertilidad, según investigue cada lado del edificio cuenta un momento o etapa historica diferente, asi el norte representa el pasado prehispánico; el sur el colonial; el lado oriente el mundo contemporáneo, y el poniente la universidad y el México actual, puedo decirles que su belleza es infinita e increíble pensar que esa obra tan grande fue realizada piedra por piedra es algo muy impactante de ver, Juan O’Gorman es por mucho mi muralista preferido y esta su obra favorita para mi, que tambien esta actualmente exhibida en plano pequeño en su amada facultad de Arquitectura, en una exposición permanente sobre el gran artista orgullo de la UNAM. Asi que para mi ver csi a diario este edificio es una casi un sueño hecho realidad.
Otro mural que me parece increíble, esta en el auditorio Alfonso Caso en la antigua Facultad de Ciencias, del autor Jose Chavez, llamado la Conquista de la Energía y data de 1953, tiene una fuerza en los colores vivos que atrapan la atención del transeúnte que lleva sus pasos por ese lugar, este bello mural habla un poco de como avanza la civilización dejando atrás el oscurantismo y la ignorancia, hacia la revelación de progreso que puede aportarle el conocimiento científico.
Tambien me gusto muchísimo la intervención que hicieron en la Escuela de Artes Cinematográficas, de fotos del fotógrafo ingles Eadweard Muybridge , referidas caballos en movimiento, esta obra que recubre su escalera principal le da mucha energía a la estructura del edifico que es muy bella y moderna.
Realmente podría pasar horas narrandoles todas que he visto, pero son tantas que es dificil condensarlas todas, y aun me falta muchas por ver, aca les dejo muchas fotos que tome estos dias de largas caminatas y admiracion artística, por este lugar lleno de historia y conocimiento como es la UNAM, este es para mi un trabajo súper divertido por tantas cosas hermosas que tengo la posibilidad de observar y admirar a diario.
