Hello friends of this Daily Blog community, today I want to share with you my visit to a small palace that is located in a central area of Havana's Vedado. It is the Ernesto Sarrá Residence, located on Calle 2 corner 13, the main entrance is on Calle 2. It is currently the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture as we can read in the entry.
I had the opportunity to visit it thanks to the project "Open Doors in Vedado". As its name indicates, anyone could visit some of the mansions selected by UNESCO, which promotes this activity.
Best of all, these tours are guided by students and professors of Architecture and Art Design who give us an explanation of each place. The objective is that everyone learns to value the architectural works we have with a specialized vision and promote their conservation for the enjoyment of future generations.
From the façade we can see its splendor, the property is protected by an elegant portico and colonial-style grilles. To access the first floor we must climb several steps that lead us to a wide portal, where the specialist who will guide us on the tour of this mansion awaits us.
The specialist tells us that this Palace dates back to 1920 and was the residence of Ernesto Sarrá, a wealthy merchant of Spanish origin who owned the La Reunión Drugstore and Pharmacy, the largest in Cuba at the time. The La Reunión pharmacy still exists in the historic center of Old Havana, defying the passage of time.
On the lower floor there is a lavish marble staircase with a very elegant black lattice that takes us to the second floor. I really enjoyed appreciating the artwork they have placed on the walls of the staircase. The most beautiful thing are two stained glass windows through which sunlight passes through and you can see the beautiful design of bright colors.
On the walls of the corridor on the 2nd floor there are also important works of art such as the beautiful painting by the Cuban artist Flora Fong, among others.
They showed us what is now the meeting room, I was very struck by the large glass window with a very beautiful painting, which aims to illuminate naturally when the day is sunny as it almost always is, while we enjoy a beautiful painting in blue tones.
I also appreciate the beautifully designed ceiling and wall details in this room and in all the parts we have witnessed.

Now let's go to the garden area, from here we can also admire the constructive beauty of the palace from its side.
The gardens are of exquisite elegance that harmonize with the beauty of the palace. There is a wide variety of species of palm trees that give distinction to the place.
In one of the gardens there is a work by the important sculptor José Villa Soberón, the work is entitled Convergencia, it is made of corten steel which is a steel that has an alloy that protects it from environmental corrosion.
From here we go out to the street through the door that goes to 13th Street, this is also where the cars of the mansion circulate.

Conociendo la historia de un Palacete en La Habana
Hola amigos de esta comunidad de Daily Blog, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi visita a un palacete que se encuentra en una zona céntrica del Vedado habanero.
Se trata de la Residencia Ernesto Sarrá, ubicada en la calle 2 esquina 13, la entrada principal está en calle 2. En la actualidad es la sede del Ministerio de Cultura como podemos leer en la entrada.
Tuve la oportunidad de visitarla gracias al proyecto "Puertas abiertas en el Vedado". Como su nombre lo indica cualquier persona podía visitar algunas de las mansiones seleccionadas por la UNESCO, quien promociona esta actividad.
Lo mejor de todo es que estas visitas están guiadas por estudiantes y profesores de Arquitectura y Diseño del Arte que nos dan una explicación de cada lugar. El objetivo es que toda persona aprenda a valorar con una visión especializada las obras arquitectónicas que tenemos y promover su conservación para el disfrute de las futuras generaciones.
Desde la fachada podemos ver su esplendor, la propiedad está protegida por un elegante pórtico y rejas de estilo colonial. Para acceder a la primera planta debemos subir varios escalones que nos guían a un amplio portal, donde nos espera la especialista que nos guiará en el recorrido por esta mansión.
Nos cuenta la especialista que este Palacete data de 1920 y era la residencia de Ernesto Sarrá, un acaudalado comerciante de origen español dueño de la Droguería y Farmacia La Reunión, mayor de Cuba en su tiempo. Aún existe la farmacia La Reunión en el centro histórico de La Habana Vieja desafiando el paso del tiempo.
En la planta inferior hay una fastuosa escalera de mármol con enrejado negro muy elegante que nos lleva para la segunda planta. Me gustó mucho apreciar las obras de arte que tienen colocadas en las paredes de la escalera. Lo más hermoso son dos ventanas de vitrales por los que pasa la luz solar y se ve el bonito diseño de vivos colores.
En las paredes del pasillo del 2do piso tienen también importantes obras de arte como la bella pintura de la artista cubana Flora Fong, entre otros.
Nos mostraron lo que es ahora el salón de reuniones, me llamó mucho la atención la amplia ventana de cristal con una pintura muy hermosa, que tiene como objetivo iluminar de forma natural cuando el día es soleado como casi siempre suele ser, mientras disfrutamos de una hermosa pintura en tonos azules.
También aprecio el bello diseño de los detalles del techo y las paredes en este salón y en todas las partes que hemos presenciado.
Ahora vamos para el área de los jardines, desde aquí también podemos admirar la belleza constructiva del palacete desde su lateral.
Los jardines son de una elegancia exquisita que armonizan con la belleza del palacete. Hay gran variedad de especies de palmeras que le aportan distinción al lugar.
En uno de los jardines se encuentra una obra del importante escultor José Villa Soberón, la obra se titula Convergencia, está hecha de acero corten que es un acero que tiene una aleación que la protege de la corrosión ambiental.
Ya desde aquí salimos a la calle por la puerta que sale a la calle 13, también por aquí es por donde circulan los autos de la mansión.

Nunca había visto este palacio, aunque es verdad que cada vez que visito la habana, estoy en el casco histórico y no he podido llegado hasta el vedado. Luego intentaré recorrer varios lugares de esa zona.
