Thesis Defended πŸ“

Yesterday was a marathon, not just a sprint. The exhaustion I felt upon waking was a testament to the late night spent huddled with my friend, meticulously preparing for our thesis pre-defense.

It wasn't the final defense, thankfully, but the anticipation hung heavy in the air, thick with the kind of nervous energy that clings to you like a second skin.

The morning began with a flurry of phone calls. My friend, bless her heart, doesn't own an iron. The question hung in the air, unspoken yet palpable did I need to trek over to her place, armed with my trusty iron, to rescue her outfit from a potential sartorial disaster? A quick call resolved the issue a direct route to school was deemed the most efficient plan. The unspoken directive was clear. focus, focus, focus. No time for side quests.

Armed with my paper bag where everything inside, meticulously organized notes, and a healthy dose of caffeine, I ventured out into the surprisingly inclement weather.

A light rain had begun to fall, transforming the familiar streets into a slightly blurry, impressionistic landscape. The rhythmic drumming of rain against the pavement provided an oddly soothing counterpoint to the frantic rhythm of my own heartbeat.

Arriving at school, I found the atmosphere thick with nervous energy. The common room, usually a hub of cheerful chatter, was transformed into a silent battlefield, where the only sounds were the rustling of papers, and the occasional, barely audible sigh of anxiety. My classmates, a motley crew of bright, ambitious individuals, were scattered around, each lost in their own private worlds of preparation.

The familiar comfort of camaraderie was replaced by a shared, unspoken tension.

I found my friend , a whirlwind of organized chaos, meticulously arranging her papers, carefully inserting them into pristine binders. The precision with which she worked was almost hypnotic; each paper perfectly aligned, each binder meticulously labeled. It was a stark contrast to the slightly chaotic state of my own preparations. I offered to help, a small act of solidarity in the face of a shared looming deadline. Sharpening pencils became a ritual, a small act of rebellion against the overwhelming pressure.

We spent the next hour in a state of quiet, focused preparation. The air crackled with unspoken anxieties, punctuated by the occasional nervous joke or shared glance of understanding. We examined the snacks we'd painstakingly prepared for the panelists – a carefully curated selection of pastries, fruits, and chocolates, intended to appease the potential arbiters of our academic fate.

They looked incredibly appealing, a small beacon of comfort in the storm of impending judgment.

Then, the first group entered the examination room. Their presentation, crisp and confident, lasted a mere ten minutes. They emerged, faces alight with relief and triumph. The second group, however, wasn't so lucky. Their presentation sparked a barrage of questions, a rigorous interrogation of their methodology and findings. The tension in the room was palpable.

The third group's presentation was cut short. Their research, it turned out, bore a striking resemblance to the second group's, leading to a surprising decision by the panelists: a merger. The second and third groups would now present their combined research, a daunting task under the circumstances.

Finally, it was our turn. The fourth group. The weight of expectation pressed down on us, heavy and suffocating. We opened our laptops, our fingers hovering over the keyboard, hearts pounding a frantic rhythm against our ribs. The presentation began, a carefully rehearsed dance of words and data. The panelists, however, were not easily appeased.

They questioned our title, deemed it too long, too unwieldy. They probed the core of our research, demanding a clearer articulation of our central argument. The questions came fast and furious, each one a tiny pinprick to our already frayed nerves. We answered as best we could, our voices trembling slightly, our minds racing to formulate coherent responses.

The moment of truth arrived. After what felt like an eternity, the panelists rendered their verdict. Approval! Not without changes, of course – a revised title, a few minor tweaks to the paper – but approval nonetheless. Relief washed over us, a wave of pure, unadulterated joy.

The remaining hours were a blur of waiting, punctuated by the occasional nervous check of our phones. Finally, all our friends had completed their presentations, each with varying degrees of success. The tension that had gripped us for hours finally began to dissipate.

The celebratory feast, fueled by leftover snacks and a shared sense of accomplishment, was a welcome respite. We'd overestimated the number of panelists, resulting in a surplus of delicious treats. The laughter that filled the room was as sweet as the pastries we devoured. We had survived. The pre-defense was over. But the final defense loomed, a distant yet ominous shadow on the horizon. The miniatures and prototypes awaited, a daunting prospect, but for now, we celebrated our small victory.
