Making It All Work: A Day in the Life of a Work-from-Home Mom

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. It's been a few days since I last posted here. I've been so busy that I haven't had the time to write or share anything. As a work-from-home mom, sometimes I struggle to manage my time and balance everything. 😌

My shift starts at 10 PM and ends at 7 AM, Philippines time. Last week, I saw that an Australian company was hiring, so I decided to apply. I thought it would be a great chance since it's a day shift job, which would be much easier for me to manage. Plus, it would help me earn some extra income, and with the cost of everything going up, having a part-time job seemed like a smart idea.

I applied last week, took the assessment, and luckily, I passed! After that, I was scheduled for an interview. I just found out last Saturday that I passed the interview too! I’m so amazed and grateful for this opportunity. It feels like such a blessing, especially with how expensive things are getting.

Luckily, the training for the new job starts at 7 AM and ends at 3 PM, Philippines time. So after my night shift, I go straight to the training. I know it’s not easy—working 16 hours in a row isn’t the healthiest—but right now, I really need the extra income.

My night shift job involves answering calls from the US, which is not too hard because our account isn’t very busy. We often have slow periods where no calls come in, sometimes for up to 10 minutes. During those breaks, I can rest my eyes or quickly clean the house. It helps me stay a bit refreshed even though I’m working long hours.

It’s tough, but I’m trying my best to manage everything so I can make this opportunity work for me and my family.

My new job is also with an easy account where we only handle emails from customers in Australia. I feel so blessed and thankful for this opportunity.

I really have to manage my time carefully. During my lunch break at 2 AM, I always get my son's uniform, socks, and bag ready. Then, I quickly clean the house, like sweeping the floor. If my son doesn’t have class, I try to nap during my lunch break.

Around 5 or 6 AM, during my break, I prepare my son’s breakfast. If I don’t have any calls, I get the rice cooker ready to cook rice. Then, I quickly cook or prepare his breakfast and snacks for school. At 6 AM, I wake him up so he can eat and get ready for school.

I always try to manage everything, like getting my son ready for school and balancing my work. I also prepare my husband's lunch and get his work uniform and socks ready. He’s the one who cooks, but I take care of packing his lunch and getting everything set for his day.

Today, after our training at 3 PM, I went to the supermarket to buy some things we needed. It felt nice to get out for a bit. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m the type of person who doesn’t go out much, so it’s always a bit of a surprise when I do. Sometimes, even if I just go outside to sweep, my son jokes, "Oh, you’re going outside the house? LOL!" Or if my husband's relatives see me outside, they say it’s a miracle! 😂 It always makes me grin silently. 😁

I went to the fruit section because my son loves pomelo, but unfortunately, they didn’t have any. So, I just bought the things we needed—just a few items since we’re on a tight budget with bills coming up soon.

I bought bacon for my son because he needs a quick breakfast before going to school. Sometimes, I don’t have enough time to cook because of my long shifts, so I try to make sure he has something easy to eat. I also bought coffee, some instant noodles (I know it's not the healthiest, but when I’m working and get really hungry, it's a quick fix), and a few household items like soap, laundry soap, shampoo, and other personal necessities.

Even though it was a small shopping trip, every little thing helps, especially when we're trying to stick to a budget. It’s also nice to see Christmas decorations everywhere now. I’m really looking forward to a happy Christmas and New Year, and I’m hoping for more great opportunities next year!

After that, I went to the pharmacy to buy vitamins for my son and some for myself too. Since I’m working double shifts, I really need something to help keep me active and boost my energy. It’s important for me to stay healthy so I can keep up with everything.

After that, I went to buy a small cup of coffee. I’m a big coffee lover, and sometimes I would think that coffee is the only thing running through my blood! It really helps me stay awake and feel active during my shift.

After that, I took a tricycle and headed home. It might not be exciting for others, haha, but I just wanted to share how my day went! 😄

I always pray to God to keep me and my family healthy and safe. I ask for His protection and guidance in everything we do. It gives me peace of mind knowing we are in His care. 😇😌
