My Travel Experience - An Act of Bravery

You're welcome to my blog. I want to share with you all my journey experience two days ago.

I boarded a car to my hometown Akwanga Nasarawa State from Plateau state where I'm serving my country Nigeria as a National Youth Service Corp member. I really wanted to start the journey very early that day but because of some few mandatory activities I needed to do that day, I ended up traveling in the evening.

I got to the pack that evening and waited so long before I got a car coming down to my side, we started the journey already before the driver stopped at a vulcanizer shop to change a bad tyre.

We all dropped down while the vulcanizer started loosening the front tyre so he can change it with the one the driver was going to remove from the car's boot.

To my suprise, the driver brought out a bad tyre that has swollen up a bit at the right side and wanted to replace it with the other one the vulcanizer loosed. Immediately my continence changed and I exclaimed "Where do you want to put that tyre?" I asked furiously. The driver refused to answer me and the vulcanizer continue to fix the bad tyre like that. While others didn't show concern, I continued to raise alarm and gradually one of the passenger came and saw the tyre the driver wanted to fix for us to travel with, immediately he requested the driver refunds him his money so he can board another car, I guess this is someone that knows the importance of his life.

I felt energised to talk more since I have someone that have some regards for their life as well. I was suprise how the other passengers showed zero concern for what was happening as if it's only one person that will be victim of the drivers nonchalant attitude at the end. The driver was left with no choice than to refund the other guys money because he insisted the driver gives him back his money. I continued to talk to the driver to change that tyre if not I'm also collecting my money. Maybe I wasn't loud enough because the vulcanizer continued to tie the bad tyre, I didn't know when I exploded in anger. We began to exchange words with the driver and some careless passengers amongst us where advising me that the tyre isn't that bad and that we can manage it to our destination. Wasn't that a dumb idea?

I told the driver I am going no where, he should change that tyre or refund me my money also. That was when the driver collected the spanner from the vulcanizer and started to loose the tyre himself.

According to him, the other tyre is bad and he'll have to patch it else there's no way he can move. I told him I have all the time he desires to fix the good tyre, he should give them the tyre to patch it I'll wait for him no matter how long, it's better to go home late than to go to heaven so early! Lol

I stood there like an inspector and was checking how they're fixing the tube for the good tyre.

While I was watching patiently, an elderly man from the car walked up to me and started lecturing me about car tyres, I paid attention to him simply because he didn't condemn my idea for the driver to change the bad tyre, I wouldn't have even listened to him because I was convinced from my inside the right thing that needs to be done as at that moment.

So I was privileged to see how drivers check for tyre manufacturing date and what an expire tyre looks like.

The first two digits represents week no. then the other two represents the year

The above simply means the tyre was manufactured in the 13th week of 2024.

He further used another car close by to show me how a foreign tyre looks like and how to differentiate them with our local made tyres. I didn't hesitate to learn new things about vehicle from the old man who seemed to have quite a good experience about vehicles and their tyres. According to the man, he has a car at home but due to the country hardship he prefers to travel by commercial transit vehicles since he'll have to spend very less to what he would have spent to journey to his destination.

I had a good time learning those things before our tyre was fixed and ready to move. I was supper excited at my act and I consider that as a bravery act because on a norms I would have agreed to the drivers nonchalant attitude and enter the car like that with the bad tyre, I hardly persist for things like this but this time around I was locked to my instinct maybe because it has to do with my life at stake..

At the end of it all, the journey was a success, I arrived home saved and wish the other passengers a safe trip to their various destinations because they were going farther than where I stopped.

What do you think about my reaction to the driver's careless act that almost endangered the lives of passengers..?

Well, everyone has he's own way of handling things, I believe the other passengers were quiet not because they didn't love their lives, buh were also trying to avoid problems, you know how some drivers behave nah...
It's a good thing you were able to speak for yourself and for others as well, if not only God knows how the ending may be,
It's also take courage to talk to drivers sha, cause some of these drivers are very rude and arrogant.
Thank God for a successful journey and welcome back home 😊🤗

That is were I used to be also, I hardly react to things like this but not in this case that it involves my life..
Thank you for coming around @iamgracia2

I will say you did a very wonderful job because you spoke up if not the driver would have fix the bad tyre and continue the journey just like that without regards for the consequences

Also I believe some of those passengers might be either too timid to talk or simply trying to avoid problems but they also forgot that every human being was born with one life only and if dead occurs one can only accept the results with no questions

But there is a saying that says 'prevention is better than cure" and I strongly agree because it's better to be cautious that to never have the opportunity again

My chief @ovey10 thank you for sharing with us

Thanks allot boss for your positive review about this.. I can't remain timid even in decisions that concerns my life, that'll be carelessness on my own side too.
