My Brain Needs a Vacation (Periodic Exam Edition)

in Daily Blogyesterday

Good day, Hivers. How are you? It's me, @rufajane. I hope this blog update helps you have a better day and spreads positive feelings. In this blog, I will discuss my experiences as a STEM student during the first quarter of the second semester.

Life has been a rollercoaster for me. Some times are dizzying, while others are joyful. As you may be aware, as grade 11 high school students, we have nine subjects in total: two mathematics (STATS, PROBS, and Basic Calculus), general biology 2, practical research, Pagbasa at Pagsulat, reading and writing, UCSP, Physical Education, and DRRR. We need more patience to study all of the subjects in one day, especially when teachers from different subjects require an exam or quiz on the same day.

And, because most teachers will require an exam or assignment every Monday, we will devote more time during the weekend to studying all of the areas that must be learned. I can't study all of the courses in one night because, no matter how hard I try, my body always needs to relax. And I can't study fully on weekends because I'm always involved with religious activities. Meaning, I only have weekend nights to study.

But it's all worthwhile. The third quarter is finally over. We are getting closer to recognition. Our periodic exam for the third quarter was scheduled on February 10, 2025. So, on weekends, I focus on our primary topics, General Biology 2 and Basic Calculus. I kept track of my subjects so that I could know which ones needed to be prioritized because my time is really limited.

When the date of our periodic exam arrived, I awoke earlier than usual and reviewed all of the subjects for a final refresher. But before heading to school, I ask my parents to get me one of my favorite snacks, Marty's. They also gave me some cucumbers. So I was quite motivated to go to school since I knew my snack was secure. However, the school's interval exam schedule left me feeling lonely, especially when my siblings and I were separated on exam days. They will take an exam on Tuesday, whereas I will take an exam on Monday. But, I strive to survive the day.

Our first subject for the periodic exam schedule in the morning was reading and writing, followed by statistics and probability, and then a brief break. Then back to Pagbasa at pagsulat examination, followed by UCSP. Then, at exactly 12:00, we take a lunch break. And when the clock strikes 1:00, we resume the examination. Our first subjects in the afternoon were Basic Calculus, DRRR, Practical Research, and General Biology 2.

To be honest, the experience is really tiring for us. It's exhausting since, in addition to not getting enough sleep, I was also suffering from migraines over the specified time period. But I'm still proud of myself because I know I wouldn't have gotten this far if I hadn't been trying to survive. But I was confident that with my parents' support and God's blessing, I would be able to be here.

So, after several hours of dealing with various subjects, the lesson finally finished. I immediately get my school supplies and bag and head outside the campus, where my parents are waiting to pick me up. It had been a long, exhausting day, and all I wanted to do was rest.

“Kumustang exam inday? Okay ra?”
(How is your exam, Inday? Did it go well?)

To be honest, this is what a child wanted to hear after a long, stressful day. Hearing these comments felt like a rejuvenation for our tired energy and spirit.

On our way home, we stop by the Prince store to grab some food. My mom brought me my other favorite food. She also brought snacks for my siblings' exams tomorrow.
Because of my parents' encouragement, I felt obligated to keep going no matter how difficult it was. They never force me nor they compel my siblings to study, but, we know that they support us because they wanted to provide us a greater future. So, as a daughter, it is my obligation to make them proud.

And that would be all. Thank you guys.
