A day in my life: Birthday edition

At the beginning of the semester, I was asked to fix a date for a seminar in March and I intentionally chose 22nd knowing fully well it’s on my birthday. Why? Well, because I feel it’s just another day of the year.

So I spent the previous day making a lot of preparations for the seminar. I was so tired I slept right away when I got back to the hostel.

I woke up in the morning and started studying because I had a mid semester in about 4 hours. That’s how much I procrastinate🤦🏽‍♀️.

Not long after, I was sent the program lineup for the seminar and asked to make some edits.

After doing that, my laptop went off and it’s been raining and there was a power outage.

Used the rest of the time to do some chores and got ready to go to class.

We waited for over an hour before we finally started the exam and all this while, my attention was divided cause I had other things to do at the seminar which had probably started.

After the exam, I had to go and eat before I could function for the rest of the day.

Right before I could finish, I was called to make arrangements for water. I was the one that made the initial arrangements so I just had to do the follow up myself.
So in a matter of minutes, I was on my way to town to pickup the water.

On our way back, I checked my phone and realized there were so many text messages I didn’t notice because my phone was on ‘Do not Disturb’.

This other message caught my attention but I know what i did to get that😏.

I was supposed to pick up some biscuits from a store located at the same place I picked the bottled water. But I was already a minute away from school so I just had to drop the water and go back.

Went and got the biscuit and now went in to join the seminar.

I got into the auditorium and again got distracted with other stuff unrelated to the seminar I had to attend to. I finally sat down and the program was done in a few minutes.

This was the only thing I got to do. The QR code leads to the website of the organization whose aim is assisting students in securing study abroad scholarships.

We were served some refreshments and most people left.

The executives together with members from the organization that delivered the presentation got together to take some pictures and I left to go back to the office.

I left because I needed to charge my laptop and phone but go there and realized there was nothing extension cable.

I used up the rest of the battery on my phone replying to birthday messages. I honestly forgot the day was supposed to mean anything to me.

I went to pray and stayed there for a while. I got back to the office later and my colleagues arrived. I was able to charge my phone for a little but I had to go to the salon to wash my hair. I had been postponing it for quite some time.

I got there and the lady was occupied so I had to wait a while.

I left there over 2 hours later and passed by a friend’s hostel. Then I made it back to the office to pack my stuff and leave.
Ended up just sitting there cause I was tired.

@zzzinnn came by later and we went to the hostel.

I got into my room to see this.

Dude denied having any knowledge about it even though his body language sold him out.

Like it was already so obvious cause who else knows where I keep my keys?

I cringe when I’m to write about stuff like this but lemme just do it

I would usually say that the best thing you could give me is plenty money but this moment made me question my beliefs.

The stuff in this package, every single one, I’ve probably mentioned thinking he would have forgotten cause dude holds a record for forgetting everything I tell him.

I have a thing for cookies but I would rather buy it for someone else then buy it for myself

I was literally talking to him about that sandals as we walked home that evening 🥺

The shirts, I mentioned I needed more of those cause I didn’t bring enough with me this semester

This note, is just his unique way of being what he is best at: an epitome of sweetness😌.

Like I’m usually the one talking plenty and always having the exact words for a situation but I just sat still and looked at him, thinking that a thank you can never measure up to what this means to me.

enough of that stuff

My friends came around and I left my room to go meet them in another.

They got pizza but it had turned cold while waiting for me to come back from the office so we had to heat it up and we didn’t waste any time on it the minute it was about of the microwave.

Then we spent the rest of the time talking with our friend in Canada without whom we are incomplete.

They took turns in giving me gifts and we all had to get back to doing what ever we had to do.

I was telling them how I’m going to study so much that night and meet my project supervisor the next day cause why would he text me this😒

I got back to my room, resumed replying messages and slept off.

I least expected this twist at the end of the day and it definitely made it memorable🫶🏽.
