Being forgetful! Something so natural but yet costs a lot. Being forgetful can not just cost you opportunities but can also cost you people, important people around you. In as much as I have tried my best to be at the brink of everything and even setting reminders for myself cause of what has happened to me in the past due my forgetfulness, I still can't stop myself from forgetting certain things.
The funny thing about this thing called forgetfulness is that there are always consequences to this thing but the positive part of it is that we always learn from it. Could either be the hard way or otherwise. I kind of have a number of experiences as to when I forgot to do things and they got me into big trouble. I'll be sharing a few stories.
So, one time while I was little I think around 14 or 15 years old. My uncle who was my dad's younger brother was staying with us then before he got married. I happened to be playing with his things that day and I stumbled upon some CD's, I picked which had nothing on its surface and wanted to see why it was blank. So I went to the palour to watch it, played it in the DVD and to my surprise it was an adult film. Well... I knew I was supposed to take it out immediately but I got really curious and wanted to watch it. So I watched till wonderful NEPA took their light. Guyyyy I was scared at that point. I monitored that palour and prayed for them to restore the light but trust NEPA na, they didn't bring the light. By the next day, I totally forgot something like that happened and that I was supposed to remove a certain disc from the DVD, NEPA brought light and we were watching something on the decoder playing around only for my dad to come back with one Michael Jackson cassette and wanted to play it. It was then I remembered I was to remove something before daddy or anyone sees it, but it was too late already. Popcy changed the connection and immediately a sextape was playing. Omo I wanted the ground to open and swallow me, I immediately started crying and instead of apologising I started saying it was not my own and I'm sorry I forgot to remove it but it was not my fault, it was NEPA that took light. I received the beating of my life that day and that was the first time my dad ever flogged me. After which it wasn't only I who faced the punishment but the entire house. Daddy disconnected the whole TV connection and took everything to his office the next day. We stayed for almost 2 weeks without TV. Omo one thing I learnt that day was to avoid any disc without an image or inscription on it. So yeah, forgetting to take out that disc earned me the beating of my life and cost the house TV for a while.
Another experience was when I forgot the time for my exam in my 300level.
I totally forgot that my exam for that day was moved from 11:30am to 10:30. It was funny how I felt so relaxed and was even walking majestically into the hall by 11:10,thinking I came earlier than usual and I even had time to settle down before the exam starts by 11:30. Only for me to be embarrassed when I saw that I was already 1hr late for the exam. Despite being that late I was delayed for an extra 30 minutes by the invigilators before sitting in for the exam, and I had to end the exam with everyone else. It was not a good day for me at all. My forgetfulness of mu examination time cost me maximum time for that exam and i didn't do as good as I was supposed to in that course. Well that experience made me learn the hard way to always double check my examination time and even set reminders.
it's important to note that in as much as it is difficult for us stop forgetting to do things, things as little as forgetting to eat, we can do well to constantly set reminders for things that can be handled and helped not to be forgotten. Thanks for the read guys. Loads of love
But why should your Uncle keep such Disc around your reach..😀
The most important thing was that you learnt from your mistake sha..
Thank you for sharing this with us @autaemmanuella
Yaaa, I really learnt, the hard way tho😂. Thanks for reading
Forgetfulness is inevitable just like we have "change", we ain't a programmed machine that do things just a the spot always. We tend to learn from it and try as much as possible not to let it happen the second time. Loving your write up like to read more👍👍
Hehhe, I would blame your uncle for dropping such Cassette carelessly after knowing you play with his things.
Children are mostly carried away by things, but if it was me, early in the morning I would have removed it before anyone even wakes up. I hate super stories, unless God wants to catch me🤣
For that exam part, Omo, I also had something similar to that but God saved me. Well, I am glad you didn't miss the examinations.
Thanks for sharing
