Hello everyone, hope you all are doing great, well Let's get to know what got me into students politics during my University days. So when I got admission into federal University of lafia, as a new student who is just getting into the system I really didn't know how things works in the University system because the secondary school mentality was still nightly in me, to me I felt it's just lectures, lectures, lectures then test and exams little did I know there was anything like politics in the University.
So during my second semester I discovered I was added to a particular group chat (National Association of Igbo students) but omo I don't follow up anything being done there once I open my gallery I get over hundreds of campaign poster from various asperants from this particular group I became so angry with every single person in the group and it got to a point that I had to archive the group in order for my B.P to be stable Lol funny right?
Well fast forward to my 200 level second semester the same problem started happening again at this point I said it out loud but the most annoying part is that my very good friend was now in the picture as a matter of fact he was running for the office of the President of National Association of Igbo students and even if I like it or not I must campaign and give him my support.
During this campaign period my friend Peace discovered that all this while no one has declared his/her intention to run for the office of the Vice president of the association, So on a very serene evening I was in my room, windows were open and I was enjoying the calm evening breeze and the serenity of my room then I heard a knock on my door I asked who is it and the voice answered it's me peace so I went to the door opened the door for her, we greeted each other and she came in and sat down at this point she was asking what I prepared but I didn't answer because I can't remember her employing a maid lol she stood up went to the room and found empty pots neatly washed and arranged, She came out with no sign of disappointment and gladly said to me Abigail I would have been disappointed if you actually made something lol we all laughed.
Then came the boring gist of not having any asperant for the position of the Vice president of the Association yet and she went further to explain that she can't come out for the position because she's just a 100level student and that is why she has come to me to plead with me to get the form for the position of vice president omo I was just looking at her smiling because to me I felt school politics is just a waste of time and also it's not God's plan for me to go into politics since I applied for political science and I was offered a different course.
The next thing I asked was Peace why? She answered, Abigail when I look at you I see vice president at this point I laughed so hard and I was like you ain't even seeing president it's vice you are seeing then I asked her what else do you see, and she continued Abigail you have the stature, you are composed, I see you commanding Authority at this point I started laughing and I was like peace pls oh all this one Nice words because of school politics and she said I wouldn't understand. long story short it took her three days and nights to convince me, I just said to myself Peace you have succeeded so I asked her how much is the form she said 5k and I was like wow that's too much nau I can't pay 5k oh she started pleading and pleading then I agreed to pay.
At this point I had to choose a run mate without too much thinking I told my Friend that I would want to be his vice president guys he's reaction was heavenly immediately he asked me to send my pictures that he wants to handle my flyers which I sent that very night, So quickly he told me to declare my interest in the general Group which I did and he immediately endorsed me. the next day I paid for the form, filled it with my passport photograph on it and submitted it to the ELCOM chairman.
Guys the moment I did that even i didn't know where the energy to campaign fell from omo I campaigned like my life depended on it, one week later it was our manifesto and election week, During my manifesto due to the fact that I haven't been an active member of the Association they treated me like an outsider lol not really how you've thought of it but guys the kind of questions they were asking me was wonderful some I didn't know how to answer but you all know what steeze can do nau your girl composed and answered everybody and at the end of my manifesto people were clapping so loudly that I had 90% pride that almost made me missed my steps.
The next day was the election day and I bought enough sweets, we printed out names as a team and we had fans sharing it for us while we were all still waiting for the election to be over.
It was 2pm and elections were over next was the counting of ballot papers with our agents in the hall during the counting we were certain that it was going to be a fair counting and 30 minutes later we were all called in, the ELCOM chairman gave a speech encouraging those who had lost not to give up for this are just baby steps.
Then it was time to announce the results of the election God I was panicking I felt like urinating on myself but I also have to maintain steeze and compulsure and to God be the glory our team won the election and it was huge for us.
See us shouting and dancing like we found raw diamonds guys it was that huge for us.
Peace couldn't stop laughing at me and congratulating me at some point she was like Abigail you never wanted this I remember forcing you into it so what happened and I answered my sister life happened oh lol and we all laughed over it, then she replied me I knew you were built for this you were just being too rigid and without any form of hesitation I agreed with her because see me shouting and dance over something I never wanted, well I believe when you have the right people in your life they will definitely help you arrive at your distination. So that was a brief story of how I got into students politics.
It’s amazing how life sometimes leads us to paths we never imagined for ourselves. Your story is a perfect example of how stepping out of our comfort zones can open doors to unexpected opportunities.
I love how Peace saw leadership potential in you even when you didn’t see it in yourself. That speaks volumes about the importance of having the right people around us, those who push us towards growth. Your campaign experience also highlights how passion and determination can make a huge difference, even in something we initially resist.

Politics deep down is nice, just because the government we have in our country turn it to a very dangerous game. Seeing women being leaders is nice. I like your courage dear.
You friend peace is a perfect example of a friend I had in school too. They can use sugar coated month to persuade and try as much as possible to convince until you end up agreeing to their demands.. Anyways I'm sure it turn out to be great alone the line and it must have been a memorable experience in your life.
Some friends are big motivation around us, I see your friend has positive thoughts about you and serves as great motivation for you..
