Hello everyone,
Blissful evening to you all.
I'm so glad to join in this weeks contest and this week prompt is very interesting because everyone definitely have an experience of it😁😁, and as someone who like eating I will share with you guys my favorite dish of all time
Growing up Sundays were special days in my home and I can tell for sure most homes here in my country do have a special time on Sundays, beginning from the meal, having time as fami and visiting relatives. And in my home every Sunday we do cook rice and stew along side ripe plantain. Growing up now I realize that It wasn’t only the day or time when the house seemed to come alive but the various smells of rice, stew and the crispy plantain from the kitchen that made Sunday special. For many, this meal wasn’t just meat and potatoes; it was continuity, care, and more than anything else unity.
Growing up, rice and stew with fried plantain can be considered as my all-time favourite meal. They always fixed this yummy dish every Sunday as though there was an alarm that was set to remind them of that. The process of making it was almost religious. My mom would begin early pulling the burner with tomato-based stew that contained spices and shredded meat. The popping sound of plantain having been heated in hot oil and rice being prepared was the music of our Sundays.
In as much as I appreciate this meal I have developed a certain attachments to it because of the memories it brings. Most of the time it went beyond the simple act of consuming food and was more about togetherness. My brothers and I would sneak into the kitchen to try to take a share of the ‘dansi’ for plantain before it was served. The important factor was being able to laugh, hear stories, and sit down together as one, it made the meal that much better.
Fried plantain was the special dish amongst the foods on the plate especially to me. Tender and crisp on the surface while inside being soft to my teeth – that was heavenly. Combine it with the tasty stew and warm white rice, it was simply irresistible to make a next course. Even to this date when I try it, it reminds me so much of those Sundays during my childhood years.
And till date my best meal has always been rice, stew and fried plantain till date as an adult.. Whenever I feel like or have some spare cash to splurge out or simply when I want to have a taste of those good old days, I cook this meal. It is basic but fulfilling, brought me back to being at home and the warmth that we used to prepare Sunday food with.
Thus, I will highly appreciate rice, stew and fried plantain for everyone who wants to taste a filling tasty dish. For most people, it goes beyond being sustenance; it’s an embrace, a memory, and even happiness served on a plate.
