Walking into a foreign space always feels like starting new book to a fresh chapter. It is filled with limitless possibilities waiting to be created and with that let me start things of by introducing myself.
Hello hivers My name is Mary Verem Ajir and I am genuinely happy to be here.
I am originally from Kwande- a local government area in Benue state Nigeria but the search for greener pastures compelled my parents to reside in the state capital which is Makurdi where they both got married and settled down. I am the fourth and last child in a family of four kids having two elder sisters and a brother.
Both my parents are still well and kicking. Mom is a veterinarian doctor and a trader in Makurdi, dad used to own a company but after a life threatening accident which took him four years to recover from, the business folded because his friend and partner did him dirty. Now he works as a teacher at a school really close to our house, the pay is not much but it is better than doing nothing.
My childhood was never filled with sunshines and rainbows. I was a sickly child which meant I was always exempted from playing and with all the restrictions I could not make friends.
I was always alone despite having siblings, they avoided me like a plague especially my elder brother who thought I was receiving special treatment for no good reason and did not even participate in house chores so he ended up disliking me even after we both became adults. My health conditions really made socializing a nightmare, I wanted to do everything but never got the chance. It got so bad that I was only allowed outside for school but once school was over, I was right back under house arrest.
My educational background is made up of different schools because of my health and the fact that I was finding it extremely difficult to fit in anywhere. My first institute of learning is Saint Joseph school in Makurdi where I was just a daycare pupil before switching to Tiny Totes for my nursery education.
My time at Tiny Totes only lasted for four years and after grade 2 I was off to Victoria nursery and primary school. In 2014 I was shipped off to live my auntie in Yola where I was enrolled in a boarding school till the end of high school.
Life in Yola was not easy at all, it was a new environment, I barely knew my aunt and worse of all both my cousins hated me from the very day I arrived. I was just starting to make new friends back at home before being thrown into this unknown territory. Initially my aunt looked like a very strict woman and I can't even count times I had to cry myself to sleep with plans to run back home if I ever get enough money to do so but after a few years with my new family,
I bonded with them in ways I never could with my folks back home. Both my cousins are more like siblings to me now,
my aunt feels more like a mother to me than my own biological parent and till this day I still prefer to go stay in Yola for the holidays with the very people who make me feel like I am home every time I walk through the door.
I rounded up my high school journey in 2018 doing exceptionally well in my SSCE. After a few struggles here and there, I finally got admission just after the COVID 19 period but had to resume late 2021 because of the schools academic calendar for the previous session. I am currently a final year student studying Business education at Federal University Of lafia in Nasarawa
state and i am likely to graduate before the year runs out. With this being my last year as an undergraduate,I want to involve myself in every vital information and skill I can get my hands on. I recently ventured into a small scale business which is paying of both financially and in terms of my socializing abilities despite my introverted tendencies. I am also halfway through my teaching practice program for the semester and I gotta admit it is shaping me into a whole new person.
I am not athletic, I don't have a good voice so I barely sing, my dancing ability is just slightly above average but I am pretty good with my tribal moves after a satisfying meal ofcourse . I am also a fully fledged fashion designer venturing into this field during the lockdown period as my aunt wanted me to acquire a skill instead of staying indoors all day. Ooooh and lest I forget I excel in the world of pencils, colors and a white paper (drawing). This is actually a hidden skill as not too many people know. I am good at it. I developed this talent as a result of my loneliness, having so much time on my hands and no friends to spend them with, I fell in love with drawing using it as a medium for self expression .
I may not be good at singing, but that don't mean I can't enjoy good music either. I am a huge Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor Swift fan In fact
I just love good music and any song that can resonate with my soul becomes my lullaby.
Massive shout out to @favecandy @coderaikiri and @ovey10 for introducing me into the blockchain. I was privileged to gain massive insights about hive from ovey10 through rigorous trainings and orientations to ensure that I am able to grasp the Web3 universe and most importantly the blockchain itself without breaking its number one rule - PLAGIARISM. I look forward to getting properly acquainted with the system and contributing with what little knowledge I have

Sometimes staying away from your immediate family and living with other relatives of yours may require you quite sometime to adjust. I remember having the same experience when I was staying with my aunt and her family. But eventually, you'll settle in at some point in time.
Welcome to @icelover
Thank you for the welcome
True I had to adjust to so many things and quit alot of things to which is what made me who I am today
