We almost naturally succumb to desperation and pity parties, bringing about all the negatives or what is lacking in our lives.
Believe me, I was like that at times,.. and questioning God why do I have to deserve such punishments of getting unfairness in life... But then, I learned to find a way to step out of the dark coz I don't want to stay there forever.. eventually, I found myself heading to the light again...
I guess the reason why God created challenges is to remember Him and be reminded that every little thing in life should be the reason to be grateful..even the challenges, and there's always a silver lining behind dark clouds..

I think most of us go through such phase in life :) The good thing is (as you said) we find the light eventually and appreciate life even more.
