The P.H.E subject

Among all the subjects I learnt during my secondary school days, the one I found so interesting and naturally fell in love with was Physical and Health Education, commonly known as P.H.E. This subject was fun-filled, easy, and very lovable for me and for 90% of my classmates, because whenever it was time for the subject, people did not run away the way they sometimes did whenever it was Mathematics or other difficult subjects.

One of the reasons I fell in love with the subject was because of the way the teacher taught us. He made it look so easy and very far from difficult, unlike how we found other subjects in the school. The teacher was a very tall man in his 50s at that time. Yes, his age did not look below 50 years. The man spoke very softly and never flogged anyone unless it was absolutely necessary. He took his time to explain all the sports in the curriculum, both the ones we already knew, such as soccer, and the many others whose names we only knew but did not understand in detail, such as how to count the scores and determine which team is winning. He explained all these as if he had once been an athlete who engaged in those sports when he was younger.

Not only did he give classroom explanations, but sometimes he also took us to the field to show us some of the sporting equipment we had never seen before and how to use them. A clear example of this was the shot put and the javelin.

The teacher was so good. He was highly committed to teaching us about various sports.
Also, he never joked about health topics. In fact, he taught us many of the things we were supposed to learn in Biology. He explained our body parts to us with clear practical demonstrations.

Talking about this subject, it was a subject full of real-life applications, because when it comes to sports, we watch various sporting events on TV, and it was so fun to come across a not-so-popular sport that we had learnt in school being played on TV. It was from this subject that I got to know all the different styles of swimming, even though I never had the opportunity to practise them. The same thing applied to high jump as well.

For health education, the teacher was so simple in his explanations and always brought things to life through practicals. We learnt how to count the heartbeat of a human and how to know when it was high or low.

I just love P.H.E and wished it had been possible for me to study it in the tertiary institution because it appeared very simple, but that never happened.

Thank You!

among the reasons we get to pick a subject as our favorite is the teacher teaching the subject and the mode of his teaching, it is easier for a student to like a subject if he likes the teacher taking the subject. i can see that you really had a good teacher in PHE leading to the love of the subject. too bad you were unable to study it at the tertiary level.

I did my teaching practice in P.H.E and I must say, is one of the easy and fun subject to teach, especially when carrying out practicals work in the field. You really have a great choice of subjects @jeff07
