Am so happy to be able to share some parental Values the way that my parents passed to me and I believe one day when I have a family of my own am going to pass the teaching onto them also.
During my days as a kid, I usually thought the advice of my parents and what they believed on are usually bull-shit and i would never follow in their footsteps although I had a life of my own to live as time went on when I started seeing the outside world I started understanding the reason of their teaching and belief and it helps me along the way and make me survive the abyss beyond. Some of their teachings are:
Teachings of a parent which they uphold and will be passed onto the children
Always be prayerful no matter where you find yourself today either good or bad
Just be you, don't compare the life of others to yours and just try to do your best in every given situation
Be contended with whatever you have no matter how little it is don't let other people's thoughts be lurking in your eyes
whatever you do in life put God first before anything else
Life might play you like a ball just be positive to achieve the goal Infact be the ball until you get to the destination you are chasing after don't ever mind what people say about you just focus on where you are getting to and the people backbiting you will be the one to come and beg you afterward.
One day you will start a journey of your own don't forget the family of where you came from.
These thoughts are like a rephrase inside my head over and over and sometimes I find it hard to understand some of what it means some I understood I finally got the message passed acrossed and finally found it useful to me.
Norms on the other hand
I prefer to make the rules which I laid for myself such as what kind of woman I want and maybe from where I which to marry either Muslim or Christian or ethics yoruba, Igbo that would be my choice to make.
In conclusion parental values are important in the life of a child it helps the child grow up in a good path and not misled by the way of the world and it depends on what part your parent leads you it might be good or bad but just have to follow which you find fitting to you and don't make the same mistake when you finally have a child of your own leading the child the wrong path also.
