Love is a beautiful thing, and being in love gives some kind of peace that is unexplainable. Due to some experiences that some have had in the past, the fear of heartbreak always makes them get involved in double-dating. They would prefer to be in two relationships at a time just to be on the safer side in case one of the partners breaks the relationship. He or she would not be so bothered because there is one other person that he or she is involved in a relationship with.
Many people in our society are so addicted to double dating these days, which I see as a bad habit. Even some of those who are married are still into this act despite their status. Some see it as a good way of life, and some see it as a source of income. Getting monetary assistance from two partners is an achievement to some. To me, double dating isn't a habit to be encouraged; in fact, it should be curbed among men and women, both young and old. Double dating poses some risks to health, reputation, and integrity.
Having multiple partners isn't a thing to be proud of; life-threatening diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, and syphilis can be contracted from having intimacy with two or more partners, and these diseases put lives at risk. Although many see it as a fun game to play for multiple reasons best known to them. Double dating is a lack of contentment and greediness, or should I say coveteousness. Having a partner who doesn't have enough to take on some of the responsibilities at times is regarded as a useless being where the partner seeks alternatives from others. It's so unfortunate that it is well encouraged in our society today, I see young teenagers getting involved in this act all because of material things. They wanted to be in vogue just like their peers, many subjected themselves to peer pressure.
Double dating also dents one's good reputation; no matter how hard one tries to hide it, the truth is like smoke; it can't be hidden for a long time; it will surely find its way to the surface. The good name that one has been building for years can get destroyed in the twinkle of an eye. To some, maintaining a good name and reputation in society is their top priority; messing it up with an act such as double dating will definitely not be an option for such people. Good reputation and integrity sure work hand in hand, because integrity will be a determining factor for a good reputation. Double dating is something we should all avoid irrespective of status, whether single or married. Being content with a partner should be advised and publicized. People should be told the dangers of this act and learn to desist from such habit. If there is a law punishment for affected individuals, it won't serve as a lesson to others, but because there are no laws guiding such acts, it makes it more acceptable and celebrated in society.
