One Thing I Wish to Change About Myself: Overcoming Self-Doubt

“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” This quote by Suzy Kassem perfectly captures the silent battle I’ve been fighting for years. Self-doubt has been a lingering shadow, speaking uncertainties into my mind in the most crucial moments. It’s something I wish to change about myself, not just because of how it limits me but because I really believe I have so much more to offer if I can learn to trust in my capabilities.https://pixabay.com/photos/balance-bar-shoes-feet-person-6157258/

For as long as I can remember, self-doubt has shown up uninvited, especially when I’m faced with new opportunities. I’ve caught myself overthinking even the simplest decisions, constantly questioning whether I’m good enough or capable enough. In team discussions, I often hesitate to say my opinions, even when I know they’re reasonable, because I’m afraid of being wrong or judged. It’s a mental roadblock that makes me hold back when I should be stepping forward.

The effects of this have been more far-reaching than I would like to say. It’s slowed me down in career and made me second-guess my capability to take on leadership roles or pursue ambitious projects. In my personal life, it’s made me overly cautious, sometimes preventing me from forming meaningful connections and bond with love ones. The most frustrating part is knowing deep down that I’m capable of so much more but I am constantly questioning my own decisions.

I’ve realized that this is a trait I need to change because it’s stopping me from becoming the person I want to be. I want to be someone who is confident, proactive, and unafraid of challenges. I’ve always dreamed of advancing in my career, nurturing strong relationships, and embracing opportunities wholeheartedly. But self-doubt has no place in that version of my life. I know that by overcoming it, I can unlock my full potential. Not just for myself, but also to motivate others to believe in their own abilities.

To work on this, I’ve started small. I’ve been setting achievable goals to build my confidence gradually and practicing positive affirmations to remind myself of my capabilities. I’ve also sought feedback from people I trust, which helps me see things from a clearer, unbiased perspective. It’s not always easy to silence the inner voices of self-doubt, but focusing on progress rather than perfection has been a game changer for me.

Self-doubt is a tough opponent, but it’s not undefeatable. I’m learning to take each step by having faith in myself, even if it feels uncertain at times. Growth is a journey, and while I’m still walking the path, I’m determined to keep moving forward. To anyone who feels the same, I want you to remember this: you’re capable, you’re worthy, and your dreams are closer than you think—if only you give yourself the chance to reach for them.

There is nothing worse than self-doubt because it brings fear and just makes you stay away from opportunities that can even help us build a future.

Self-doubt is actually a worse enemy and I'm glad you've decided and already taking some proactive measures to see that change happens.
Thanks for sharing...

Doubt is a very terrible thing. It's like a cage that keeps a person in one place. It's nice that you have come to the understanding that it's something that can be defeated, all you need to do is to be consistent in countering it with positivity.

Self doubt can keep you in a place you shouldn't be, even when you have all this takes to excel. Beautiful write-up!
