Confidence and self esteem are to different thing. Although, confidence would have been synonymous to self esteem in the sense that we also have what is called high self esteem which in one way or the other related or synonymous to confidence but the other self esteem which is the low self esteem is nowhere close to confidence. So, this is the reason I will not like self esteem to confidence just because of the slight antonyms when it comes to low self esteem to confidence.
Seeing this weekly prompt has prompted me to talk about confidence, it's has to do with self assurance, boldness and courage to do things. Hmmm, it's not everybody that has confidence in him or herself but those that have are always successful in their endeavors. Atimes, it takes confidence to have faith and be determined in what you do. So, the word confidence has in synonyms, belief, faith, trust, certainty, self assurance and so on. Looking at all this words and their meanings, you now realize that confidence makes one a spectacle.
On the other hand, like I said earlier, self esteem can be likened to confidence on one hand and on the other hand, it's totally different. This is because of the low self esteem that some people portray in their lives. When we talk about the low self esteem, it is the inferiority complex that some people are battling with in their lives and with this, they don't really believe or trust even their own action which is a disaster to the fortune of such people.
In this life, I personally have tasted and tested what we call confidence and self esteem (low). And I will like to share my experiences. Let me start with

confidence/high self esteem. In those days, I used to be full with different ideas, when I say ideas, I'm talking about business ideas. So, then I have full confidence in myself and atimes, whenever I'm alone, I used to feel myself. Then, friends used to come to me for ideas and I used to dish the ideas out to them with confidence and whenever they make use of this idea, they see changes in their lives and businesses. What of I, the owner of the ideas? I too use to make use of the idea myself and it's always working for me. Most of my ideas then were on business investments which i used to do and make money from. But there's a time that i decided to venture into some other things than investment. I ventured into selling of foodstuffs, something I know nothing about. I spent all my savings on this my new business and at the end, I recorded massive loss without taking anything out of the business which I later closed down and this was where my low self esteem or inferiority complex started from.

So, after everything has went down, I went to hide myself for months. I did this just because of the shame that accompanied my fall. So, I couldn't come out. I lost total confidence in myself and couldn't relate with people around me. It's was so pathetic that my inferiority complex really affected my confidence and it was so difficult for me rise again. This is because I have lost faith in myself, and my self assurance was no more there. But thank God I'm gradually coming back to live, but not as before. Although I'm currently doing petty businesses but it's been a serious matter.
So, the journey of life is full of confidence and self esteem but it all depends on the one you choose. If its confidence, you are well assured of greatness in life but of low self esteem, such person is going nowhere. With confidence you conquer and move mountain. But with low self esteem you compound your problems.
