I love this concept. When I'm looking at my house and wondering if I should prepare to repaint the siding boards or wondering when the windows or the roof should be maintained from the outside or whether or how long the drainage system will be able to keep the foundation dry, I think about the advantages of having the house inside by a giant greenhouse like this.
Would it be hot in the summer? Could the space be adequately ventilated during hot weather? How much would such a structure cost to build?
That greenhouse has a total area of 400 m2. Another Swedish family had such a greenhouse built around their house at a cost of 909,000 SEK or about €80,000. That greenhouse was roughly half the size. Even if the greenhouse cost well over €100,000 to build, the life of the house would be radically extended and the maintenance and repair costs radically reduced. Also, the cost of heating would be much lower.
It would be cheap to extend living or working space inside a spacious greenhouse like that. A yard like that would blur the difference between indoor and outdoor spaces. Not exactly a yard. But not exactly like a sunroom, either. It would be so easy to come up with interesting use cases year round particularly in a cold climate with very unpleasant weather much of the year. A place like that would be a serene and quiet environment safe for small children and pets.
