Visiting the museum of the sea after several years was a nice experience, this time my son accompanied me, it is the first time that my little adventurer enters the museum, he had a great time and asked many questions, his sight was directed to the different areas of the museum until he read the sign of reptiles and mollusks, in this area he spent several minutes observing these curious animals and their peculiar shells or shells; The museum is located in the sector mundo nuevo calle vela de coro and is part of the cultural complex Luis Manuel Peñalver, to get there you have to climb a small hill, due to the intensity of the sun rays and the heat that is doing in the city was somewhat exhausting the ascent, we made several breaks to rest until we finally reached our destination.
The headquarters of the museum is a rectangular building, the right side wall is black and on it you can read the identification of the museum in gold letters, moving towards the central part and entrance of the museum is a long corridor with caico floor, concrete benches and in front of these the glass wall with several images alluding to the bottom of the sea and the diverse fauna that inhabits there, while we waited to enter two dogs accompanied us in the hallway, I think they were protecting themselves from the sun.
In front of the entrance you can observe the xerophytic vegetation of the place and a partial view of the residential complex Vela de Coro, also the sculpture of a whale made of wood mounted on an iron pedestal, one of the fins came off and was placed in the back of the pedestal; besides the whale there is a sculpture of a beautiful and tender dolphin of blue color, made of iron, with the teeth they did a great job, they are sharp, symmetrical and they seem real.
At the end of the corridor there is a wall that connects the museum with the cultural complex, which can be accessed by stairs, upon entering the museum there is a brightly lit hallway with white walls, ceramic floor, ceiling, several blue armchairs, on the right side of the hallway is the meeting room and bathrooms on the left side, the entrance door to the museum is glass and on it is the logo of the Universidad de Oriente, an important house of study in the country and administrator of the museum.
When you enter the museum you will read the rules to follow while you stay in the place and you will see a semicircular door decorated with blue and white waves, the walls are black and are decorated with images of whales, manatees, fish and algae; For the children there is a beautiful space decorated with a couple of cardboard divers, where the little ones can take beautiful pictures of their visit to the museum, at the top the divers have a circle where the children place their faces and magically become explorers of the seabed.
A highlight of the museum is the model of the Cariaco Trench, the largest anoxic oceanic basin in the world. One of its unique features is the absence of oxygen and light, according to the information on the card located at the top of the model.
The cultural complex is a three story building, in the front it has a small garden, it is light yellow in color, the main door is glass and double leaf, it has a theater and different spaces for events and fairs; on several occasions I have attended concerts and events in the theater, it is a nice place, with comfortable seats, excellent acoustics and lighting, on this occasion we could not enter because the opening hours were over.
According to the information provided by the security officer, it was founded in 2005 and is also the headquarters of the cultural and extension department of the Universidad de Oriente, a space where support is given to the extra academic development of students in the areas of theater, dance, singing, painting and music; it owes its name to the outstanding doctor, minister of education, rector and founder of the Universidad de Oriente; it was a beautiful and pleasant visit to the museum with my little adventurer.
