In this opportunity I want to talk about a beautiful historical monument known as the Cathedral of Maracay or Cathedral of San Jose which is located in the city of Maracay, Aragua state, Venezuela. A few days ago I went out in the company of my husband, as I am new in this city, I wanted to know some places, among which was the Cathedral; I had heard about it for its beautiful design and I could not stay with the doubt, so I took a little of my time to do that tour.

En esta oportunidad les quiero hablar acera de un hermoso monumento histórico conocido como, la Catedral de Maracay o Catedral de San José que está ubicada en la Ciudad de Maracay, estado Aragua, Venezuela. Hace pocos días salí en compañía de mi esposo, como soy nueva en esta ciudad, quería conocer algunos lugares, entre los cuales estaba la Catedral; había oído hablar acerca de ella por su hermoso diseño y no me podía quedar con la duda, por lo que tomé un poco de mi tiempo para hacer ese recorrido.
A few minutes before entering the place, I stayed outside, I wanted to observe and detail what was around me. The church is well known and visited by many locals who gather for their religious services. This temple is a Catholic religious building. It was built in 1701, being its first parish priest Francisco Perez Estopinan. This church, unlike other cathedrals in Venezuelan cities, is not located in front of Maracay's Plaza Bolivar. Its present appearance is the result of numerous modifications throughout history.
Pocos minutos antes entrar al lugar, me quedé en la parte de afuera, quería observar y detallar lo que estaba a mi alrededor. La iglesia es conocida y visitada por muchos lugareños que se reúnen para sus cultos religiosos. Este templo es un edificio religioso católico. Fue construido en el año 1701, siendo su primer párroco Francisco Pérez Estopinan. Esta iglesia, a diferencia de otras catedrales en ciudades venezolanas, no se encuentra frente a la Plaza Bolívar de Maracay. Su aspecto actual es el resultado de numerosas modificaciones a través de la historia.
This church has a structure created in the form of a dome, which gives it a touch of splendor and beauty, in the lateral parts of this architecture you can appreciate walls that are well designed and fortified. In spite of the time they have, they are in perfect conditions.
Esta iglesia cuenta con una estructura creada en forma de cúpula, lo cual le da un toque de esplendor y belleza, en las partes laterales de esta arquitectura se puede apreciar unos muros que están bien diseñados y fortificados. A pesar del tiempo que tienen, están en perfectas condiciones.
The bells have the shape of an inverted and hollowed cup that rings and vibrates when struck. In some churches they have the custom of ringing the bells three times in a row, as an announcement that the time is approaching to start the religious worship. And they are in perfect condition, there are no cracks. The color of the painting speaks for itself, since it is a white color, which gives it a meaning of sanctity and purity.
Las campanas tienen forma de copa invertida y ahuecada que suena y vibra al ser golpeada. En algunas iglesias tienen la costumbre de sonar las campanas tres veces seguidas, a modo de anuncio que se acerca la hora de iniciar el culto religioso. Y están en perfecto estado, no se le observan grietas. El color de la pintura habla por sí sola, ya que es un color blanco, lo cual le da un significado de santidad y pureza.

This church has been under constant remodeling since it was inaugurated as the central parish of Maracay. Without the support and collaboration of the members and inhabitants of the city none of this would have been achieved. Thanks to this effort, today we can enjoy this beautiful cathedral, created for the parishioners and all those who wish to take refuge in the hands of God. This structure is extremely spacious, ideal for meetings and festive celebrations; in fact, years ago, crowds of people gathered to celebrate Holy Week.

Esta iglesia ha ido en constante remodelación desde que fue inaugurada como parroquia central de Maracay. Sin el apoyo y colaboración de los miembros y habitantes de la ciudad nada de esto se hubiese logrado. Gracias a ese esfuerzo hoy podemos disfrutar de esta hermosa catedral, creada para los feligreses y todos los que deseen refugiarse en las manos de Dios. Esta estructura es extremadamente espaciosa, ideal para reuniones y celebraciones festivas; de hecho, años atrás, multitudes de personas se reunían a celebrar la Semana Santa.
Upon entering the temple, you can see at the top, a pair of hanging chandeliers in the form of chandeliers, these lamps are used as a symbol of light for humanity. Its three naves are separated by concrete walls formed by half arches.
Al entrar al templo, se puede apreciar en la parte superior, un par de lámparas colgantes en forma de araña, estas lámparas son usadas como símbolo de luz para la humanidad. Sus tres naves están separadas por unos muros hechos de concreto formados por medios arcos.
Each nave has its own altar, but the main altar is in the central nave.
Cada nave tiene su respectivo altar pero en la nave central está el altar mayor o principal.
This design has natural lighting and ventilation, which results in a fresh and warm atmosphere, which is important for the parishioners to feel comfortable. We also note that this place has some decorations with accessories and handicrafts which makes it look very beautiful and radiant.
Este diseño cuenta con una iluminación y ventilación natural, esto da como resultado un ambiente fresco y cálido, lo cual es importante para que los feligreses se sientan cómodos. También observamos que este lugar tiene algunas decoraciones con accesorios y artesanía lo que la hace ver muy hermosa y radiante.

This church has become a legend for being an ancient structure, from the colonial era and being located in the central part of the city it is really nice to the eye of visitors who can explore and learn a little more about this great design.
I had the opportunity to contemplate this emblematic structure both inside and out and I was really impressed because I had forgotten how wonderful it is to be in a place full of faith and hope specifically I do not remember the last time I visited a place like this but it feels a tranquility.

Esta iglesia se ha convertido en toda una leyenda por ser una estructura antigua, de la época de la colonia y que al estar ubicada en la parte central de la ciudad realmente es agradable a la vista de los visitante que pueden explorar y conocer un poco más acerca de este gran diseño.
Tuve la oportunidad de contemplar esta emblemática estructura tanto por fuera como por dentro realmente quede impresionada porque había olvidado lo maravilloso que es estar en un lugar lleno de fe y esperanza específicamente no recuerdo la última vez que visite un lugar como este pero se siente una tranquilidad

Hello @carmary. The Cathedral of Maracay easily stands out from the rest of its surroundings due to its immaculate white color. Plus its elaborate details definitely entice onlookers making it a feast for the eyes. The spacious interiors also speak of a heavenly atmosphere due to its high ceiling and elaborate decorations.
Do you have any idea of the architectural style or character this church is following?
Yes, that height gives a sense of space, of encounter with the sacred or the superior.
The predominant architectural style of this church is baroque, very typical of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, remember that it was built in 1701. In its interior we observe Gothic influences, such as a marble altarpiece in the presbytery.
But its large curved forms, the presence of two domes and its columns with ornaments and sculptures, are unmistakable signs of the baroque influence of the time.
