Hello everyone in Architecture+Design Community! 🤗
Today i want to share about The Beautiful And Majestic Architecture of Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta.
Last month the hospital staff and me had a vacation to Yogyakarta and one of our holiday destinations was Prambanan Temple which is known as one of the largest temples for Hindus in Indonesia with historic architecture and luxurious temple buildings. So i am very interested in sharing the beauty of architecture with our beloved community, namely the Architecture+Design community about the details of Prambanan Temple 🤗
Prambanan Temple is located in Central Java, precisely in Sleman, Yogyakarta. This temple is one of the largest Hindu temples in Indonesia and has been named a world heritage by UNESCO, so it's no wonder that Prambanan Temple is very much visited by tourists, not only domestically, but is even famous overseas, so many foreign tourists visit this magnificent temple.
Prambanan Temple has several main buildings that are soaring high and have very beautiful architecture and have characteristics in community buildings during the ancient Hindu kingdom, we can see the temple building has a texture of natural rock with steps and around the temple there is a fence in the form of small domes or statues around the main building and on the walls and almost the entire stone is engraved with a relief that tells the history of the Hindu kingdom and is related to the temple.
I was curious about the room inside the temple so my friend and me decided to enter the temple, namely the door above the photo, but there was an officer who reminded us not to take pictures of the room inside on the grounds of respecting the temple. So what is inside is only a square room with several small statues and like vases/jars with only Hindu motifs in them.
Prambanan Temple, apart from having a high historical architectural value, also has high historical and cultural value, which can be illustrated from the temple reliefs in the detailed photo of the temple above that i took, there are lots of pictures of Hindu gods, mythological creatures, stories from the Hindu kingdom and architecture such as staircases which have various beautiful reliefs that we can see.
I was very impressed by the many beautiful and interesting details in the architecture and details of the reliefs of the Prambanan Temple and the thing that really amazed me was the detail of the carvings of Hindu gods on the temple walls which looked so neat, even i was wondered how people in ancient times had the skills to carve stones beautifully without modern tools like today.
Unfortunately, in 2006 there was a terrible earthquake in the Yogyakarta area which damaged several temples and statues at Prambanan Temple. The photo above shows several statues that were damaged and collapsed due to an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale, so to capture this moment, a monument was made that tells the story of the earthquake.
Apart from having a temple with a magnificent architecture, Prambanan Temple also has an area that is in the middle of a vast landscape of about tens of hectares making this temple the nicknamed the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, besides that the scenery and green environment make the atmosphere at Prambanan Temple very fresh and clean.
The large area and surrounded by greenery makes this temple look very alive with the added value in terms of environmental design for the Prambanan Temple, even photos of distant areas with the background of Prambanan Temple like my photo above look very aesthetically pleasing.
Apart from that, around the Prambanan Temple area there are also several Yogyakarta food courts and souvenir shops such as Yogya specialties or souvenirs in the form of items such as key chains, clothes, toys and so on.
