When you pass through the gate that reads Southeast Sulawesi, you will pass through a road made of river stones. On both sides of the road, there are plants that are shaped like fences and some plants such as palm trees. After passing through the road, we will find a tiled house yard but there are some glass floors. What's unique about the glass floor is that we can see into it. There is an empty space that looks like a pool but there is no water in it. Either it is designed to be empty like that or because it is not being filled with water. But for me this is still unique because this is the first time I've found a courtyard that is designed like that.
Like the traditional houses of other Sulawesi provinces, the basic material of Southeast Sulawesi traditional houses is also dominated by wood. Even so, the design and structure of the building must be different. In my opinion, from the streets to the design of the courtyard alone, it shows the difference. The shape of Southeast Sulawesi's traditional houses is also quite unique. However, for the foundation they use cemented stone. If according to the article I read, the stones used for the foundation are stones taken from nearby rivers or mountains. In addition, all building materials come from wood and bamboo.
Their traditional houses are on stilts and have more than two floors. For the floor they also use wooden planks as the basic material. Although ninety percent of the buildings are made of wood, the traditional houses of Southeast Sulawesi look sturdy and majestic. And although this traditional house was first made in ancient times, the design is very stunning.
The roof of the traditional house is towering and uses roof tiles that are the same color as the walls of the building. For the roof of their traditional house, it is said to vary depending on who the owner is. Because the roof of the house symbolizes the social status of the occupants of the house. The residences of kings, officials and commoners are differentiated by the shape of the roof.
Above is a little explanation about the architecture of the traditional house of Southeast Sulawesi province. I hope you like and understand my writing. Thank you and see you in another post about architecture!
