Hello friends of Hive, a pleasure to greet you again, I hope you are wonderful and that blessings are not lacking in your lives. Today I would like to share with you some pictures of a charming place, it is: The Archaeological Museum "Gonzalo Rincón Gutiérrez", another building belonging to the illustrious University of the Andes, which I have the honor to be part of.
It is located in the center of the city of Merida, Venezuela, annexed to the Rectorate Building of the University of the Andes, another work of architecture that I hope to share in the coming days. A beautiful work by Architect Manuel Mujica Millán., an architect who undoubtedly enhanced the beauty of the people of Merida with his emblematic works.
This museum is a place dedicated to research and in it we can find many prehistoric objects that tell us about the history of the Andean Cordillera. What makes it a tourist site of interest not only for the exhibition halls that are here, but also for its architectural value.

El día de hoy quisiera compartir con ustedes algunas fotografías de un lugar encantador, se trata de: El Museo Arqueológico "Gonzalo Rincón Gutiérrez, otro edificio perteneciente a la ilustre Universidad de los Andes, de la cual tengo el honor de formar parte.Está situada en el centro de la ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela, anexo al Edificio del Rectorado de la Universidad de los Andes, es una obra hermosa del Arq. Manuel Mujica Millán., un arquitecto que sin duda realzó la belleza del pueblo merideño con sus obras tan emblemáticas.Este museo es un lugar dedicado a la investigación y en él podemos encontrar muchos objetos prehistóricos que nos hablan acerca de la historia de la Cordillera Andina. Lo que lo convierte en un sitio turístico de interés no solo por las salas de exposiciones que aquí se encuentran, sino también por su valor arquitectónico.
As we enter this building, the first thing that catches our eye is the central square, with a simple but cozy garden surrounded by beautiful arches, which make a perfect harmony. I really like the visual effect achieved by this architectural composition.
This two-story structure has concrete columns with various decorative elements that contrast perfectly, in its long corridors we can find different spaces, some for research, teaching and other galleries where valuable objects of archaeological value such as clay figures, ancient tools, fossils and other things. Unfortunately, at the time of my visit all these areas were closed, however, I managed to enjoy some sculptures that are on permanent exhibition as the one we see in the following image.
Al entrar a este recinto, lo primero que nos roba la mirada es la plaza central, con un sencillo pero acogedor jardín rodeado de hermosos arcos, que hacen una armonía perfecta. Me gusta mucho el efecto visual que logra esta composición arquitectónica.Esta estructura, de dos plantas, cuenta con columnas de concreto con diversos elementos decorativos que contrastan perfectamente, en sus largos pasillos podemos encontrar diferentes espacios, algunos destinados a la investigación, la docencia y otras galerías donde se encuentran valiosos objetos de valor arqueológicos como figuras de barro, herramientas antiguas, fósiles entre otras cosas. Desafortunadamente, para el momento de mi visita todas estas áreas se encontraban cerradas, sin embargo, logre disfrutar de algunas esculturas que se encuentran en exposición permanente como la que vemos en la siguiente imagen.
This sculpture is located at the beginning of the right corridor, which communicates to the Rectorate Building, it is called "The memory of your mother country" a work of Álvaro Mercado, it is an interesting composition of iron tools and weapons.
This is how the tour begins, through these corridors full of knowledge. Surrounded by large wooden windows, protected with wrought iron railings, the floor has a two-color coating that simulates a chessboard and gives an interesting perspective to the whole set. From anywhere we can have a full view of the garden and have a good natural lighting.
Esta escultura se encuentra situada al comienzo del pasillo derecho, el cual comunica al Edificio del Rectorado, lleva por nombre "El Recuerdo de tu madre patria" una obra de Álvaro Mercado, es una interesante composición de herramientas y armas de hierro.
De esta forma comienza el recorrido, por estos pasillos llenos de conocimientos. Rodeados de ventanas grandes de madera, protegidas con rejas de hierro forjado. El piso cuenta con un revestimiento bicolor que simula un tablero de ajedrez y le da una perspectiva interesante a todo el conjunto. Desde cualquier lugar podemos tener una vista completa del jardín y contar con una buena iluminación natural.
This building is located in place of the old seminary of San Buenaventura, founded by Fray Juan Ramos de Lora, Bishop of Merida, so in some walls we can find plaques and sculptures in his honor.
From the back we can see in the background one of the peaks that make up the Sierra Nevada.
Este edificio está emplazado en lugar del antiguo seminario de San Buenaventura, Fundado por Fray Juan Ramos de Lora, Obispo de Mérida, por eso en algunas paredes podemos encontrar placas y esculturas en su honor.
Desde la parte posterior podemos apreciar al fondo uno de los Picos que conforman la Sierra Nevada.
In the right corridor we can find informative exhibits about the Cordillera de Mérida, where they tell us about some traditions, natural sites, the history of the city and tell us in a didactic way the most popular stories of myths and legends of the region. In the image on the left we can see a set of cubes that tell the story of the enchanted lagoon of Urao. Also on this side is the library and a sale of copies and books.
En el pasillo derecho podemos encontrar exposiciones informativas, acerca de la Cordillera de Mérida, donde nos hablan de algunas tradiciones, de los sitios naturales, de la historia de la ciudad y nos cuentan de manera didáctica las historias de mitos y leyendas más populares de la región. En la imagen de la izquierda podemos ver un juego de cubos que cuentan la historia de la Laguna encantada de Urao. También de este lado se encuentra la biblioteca y una venta de ejemplares y libros.
Its main façade is majestic, an arched opening welcomes visitors, surrounded by various decorative elements, we can see a series of protruding wooden windows, protected with wrought iron bars.
The lateral façade is also constituted by the series of windows that surround the building. In the last photograph we can observe the Boulevard, here we can find the Cesar Reginfo Theater and the Faculty of Dentistry. This boulevard is the meeting place for artists who exhibit their paintings and also some people gather to play chess, checkers, have a coffee and spend a pleasant time.
Su fachada principal es majestuosa, un vano en forma de arco recibe a los visitantes, rodeado de distintos elementos decorativos, podemos observar una serie de ventanas de madera sobresalientes, protegidas con rejas de hierro forjado.La Fachada lateral está constituida también por la serie de ventanas que rodea el edificio. En la última fotografía podemos observar el Bulevar, aquí se encuentra el teatro Cesar Reginfo y La Facultad de Odontología. Este Bulevar es el sitio de encuentro de artistas que exponen sus pinturas y también algunas personas se reúnen a jugar ajedrez, damas, tomar un café y pasar un rato ameno.

Amazing dear @doriangel! Buildings with open-air centralized courtyards always fascinate me. Plus the significant presence of green spaces within it adds to its favorable atmosphere - a vital ingredient needed for a much better museum experience. 😊
Could you give some examples of stories or legends about the archaeological secrets of that place?
Thank you very much, I also really like this type of plants with central courtyards. The galleries were closed, I visited very early. There are interesting things to see and learn about here.
Basically in the museum we will find ancient and prehistoric objects found in the Andean mountain range. In my country there are three states that are part of this mountainous formation, Mérida, Tachira and Trujillo. Here you can find examples of handicrafts, vessels, instruments and farm tools, some fossils and objects that show how funeral acts were carried out in the past. Also articles that tell us about the traditions and customs of the Andean people.
I took this video that day, but I couldn't upload it to the post because the internet didn't allow it, like this one there are several educational games that tell the legends and myths, in Mérida there are several lagoons and waterfalls and behind them there is a legend. This is about the Laguna de Urao, where it says:
"One day there was a big fight where Arco and Arca were defeated, falling to the ground, they fell into the Santo Domingo lagoon, then they came out with a pitcher of water creating the other lagoons, when they reached Lagunillas the pitcher broke and forms the urao lagoon, where they stayed to live, they say that Arca transforms into a large snake called "Doña Simona", who gets angry when they shout or throw garbage into the lagoon."
Just as you are, there are various indigenous myths that are part of the culture of my region. In the museum, as I mentioned, there is also a library.

That's right, I couldn't have described it better. This building is an annex to the central building that is the Rector's Office of the University, which I hope to write about soon, perhaps in that post I can better describe the story. But from what I know and from the image we can see, in 1785 Bishop Fray Ramos de Lora founded the seminary but that building was demolished and it was built on its ruins, the current building being inaugurated in 1956.
