Façade of the Church of "Jesús de Miramar"//Fachada de la Iglesia de "Jesús de Miramar"
When you walk through the neighborhood of Miramar, right along the Fifth Avenue of the municipality of Playa, in Havana (Cuba), it is impossible not to notice the majestic church of Jesus de Miramar, which is one of the largest in Cuba.
This is the view of the interior of the church that I took from the ground, looking from the south towards the altar.
As you approach, you will notice its imposing neo-Romanesque façade, which is topped by a large dome. The structure, built in 1948 after the project presented by Spanish architects Eugenio Cosculluela and Guido Sutter was approved, was inaugurated on May 28, 1953 and belongs to the Archdiocese of San Cristobal de La Habana. The temple is neither luxurious nor very ornamented; it is adorned with stone details, and its large windows allow natural light to flood the interior, creating a sacred and cozy atmosphere.

Upon entering, you are greeted by a spacious lobby decorated with fourteen colorful oil murals on a metal sheet with more than two hundred and sixty-six life-size figures depicting biblical scenes. To represent the characters, felegrines and contributors who financed the work posed, and even the author, the Spanish painter César Hombradós, portrayed himself as the executioner and his wife, Sara Margarita Fernández, posed to give life to the Virgin Mary.

Once inside, you feel small before the enormous space, with high ceilings and angelic sculptures. The detail put into each work inside the church is astounding, reflecting the deep devotion of the artists. Along the walls are scenes from the life of Jesus; the story begins and ends from where the main altar is located, which is the heart of the church.

The main altar cannot be climbed by the public, but is reserved for priests and is used for the celebration of mass, as well as for important ceremonies such as weddings and baptisms. The image of Jesus, which gives the church its name, is on top, as if he were the king of all, surrounded by angels and other saints, creating an atmosphere of peace and spirituality.
I hope you enjoyed this virtual tour of the Catholic church of Jesus de Miramar. Its architecture and atmosphere made a great impression on me as a visitor, seeing people kneeling to pray or entering to tell their sorrows and problems in front of the different altars, made me very sensitive and I preferred not to photograph anyone in their most vulnerable moment.
The interior design of the church is beautiful, I loved the mural on the dome.
Greetings!
I thoroughly enjoyed your post and seeing the beautiful photos, which I'm sure is the smallest part of how beautiful that church is. I can see how imposing it is and I can infer that the air of peace that is breathed there is unique, typical of these places. I liked it very much, Cuba has great contributions to architecture.
Havana is a city I would love to visit, because of the beautiful architecture I have seen here. Beautiful tour.
