Description of the Monument to Major General José Miguel Gómez [eng/esp]

I recently started a Russian language course. I am very excited about it because I enjoy learning new things, and if it is a language much better. For Spanish speakers it can be considered a complicated language because of the differences in the alphabet, but after you manage to learn it, everything becomes much easier.
Yesterday, after finishing my Russian classes, I decided to explore a different way to get to the place where I take my transportation home; and to my surprise I found a building that I consider has a very good architectural value.

I am talking about the Monument to Major General José Miguel Gómez, located on the elegant Avenida de los Presidentes, in Havana's El Vedado. I have always had the perception that this avenue, also known as G, is one of the most eye-catching in the city; and one of the elements that most adorns it is this monument.
This work was designed by the Italian architect Giovanni Nicolini, and is dedicated to one of the first presidents of the country. To ascend to the monument, by any of its sides, you have to climb its wide stairs, and from the highest point, you can appreciate very beautiful views.

The monument, for the most part, is made of marble and has several pointed arches supported by wide columns. It is built at a height above ground level, so you can feel a cool temperature and a very pleasant breeze most of the time. The corridors are wide and the ceiling has a vaulted shape, which in my opinion, is one of the most interesting designs in the case of roofs.

On both sides there is a fountain that is currently not working, but when it was in operation the water came out of the mouth of a very strange figure that resembles the face of a man.
The exterior garden is simple, but it is striking because the plants have a very bright greenery and has some royal palm trees, which is the national tree of Cuba and one of the most frequently found in our landscapes.

In the center of the monument is the statue of the Major General, located more than 3 meters high and built in bronze, with a finish very similar to the real image of the former president. Next to this statue, there are six figures representing the six provinces into which Cuba was divided at that time, and later a political and administrative division was made, very similar to the one we have today.
In the same central base of the architectural complex, there are two other marble statues, representing strength and magnanimity, with the artistic objective of highlighting these characteristics in the figure of the president represented, praising the ability to do great things.

In the monument there are other elements such as benches that are also made of marble, and two other groups of sculptures with different representations: one of them symbolizes law, peace and law; the other one symbolizes history, time and freedom.

It is an excellent monument. That's one of the nice things about having presidents come, you get to recreate history. My son learned a lot about history by recreating monuments. Thank you dear Indira for sharing this historical beauty 🌹🌷🥀🌻💮🌺🌸💐🌼🪷🪻☘️.

It is true, reviewing the bibliography I learned things that I did not know about the monument and that I did not remember from my student days. It is important to learn something new every day 😉

We are always learning 🌹🌷

It is a superb monument, one of the most beautiful in Havana, I love those rows of columns with their arches and what to say about the sculptures, I can not help but turn my face towards it every time I walk down that avenue.

It is true that it is one of the most beautiful monuments in Havana, it was designed with very good taste. You can tell that the architect is Italian, the Roman style is immediately noticeable.

Greetings @indipnash91, what a beautiful monument, I liked the columns and their beautiful decorations, also the sculptures, the setting is lovely.

Happy week!

Thank you very much dear @belkyscabrera, it is a very beautiful monument, it looks like a kind of small Roman coliseum, this is due to the nationality of its architect. A hug for you
