My different vision of the Necropolis [eng/esp]

A few days ago I participated in a travel agency marketing meeting, where representatives of each company showed us the catalog of products they offer for the 2024-2025 tourist season. The sessions were very interesting because I was able to learn about the full range of options that visitors can enjoy upon arrival in our city, but there was one offer in particular that caught my attention.
My curiosity was aroused by a travel circuit whose main objective is to attract clients interested in getting to know the best of the destination's architectural design, which includes a visit to the Christopher Columbus Necropolis, located on the corner of Calzada de Zapata and 12th Street, in the capital's Plaza.

At the end of this activity, my work colleagues and I decided to buy one of these excursions to live the experience as clients, but as a lover of architecture and design, I went ahead to visit the cemetery, and share with you what I experienced.
When I arrived at the cemetery, I left behind the traditional thinking that makes us see it as "a sad place that should not be entered". I preferred to look at it as a place where very important people in our lives rest, and enjoy its unique design, which distinguishes it as one of the most important necropolis of the American continent.
Most of the pantheons have a design that allows them to be integrated as a whole, but they always have some element that distinguishes them from each other, such as the finish of their roofs or the shape of the arches that make them up.

One of the pantheons that most caught my attention is the one dedicated to the Sociedad Montañesa de Beneficencia, which resembles a kind of white marble castle with pointed arches on its façade that convey a sense of verticality. On its walls it has several images in relief. The entrance door is made of glass and black metal, and has an engraving of the coat of arms that symbolized the society.

One of the most extensive pantheons that exists in Colon is the one dedicated to the society Naturales de Ortigueira, which is still constituted in Havana. It looks like a chapel and is located about half a meter above ground level, so to reach its wide entrance door you have to climb about 6 steps.
Although I could not access its interior, when I looked up I observed a large tower that has a bell and ends with a figure in the form of a cross, which conveys the impression that there is a division, as in churches, of the prebisterium and the main nave.

The cemetery occupies a fairly large area, so it was not possible to visit it in a single visit. It is divided by two vast avenues that divide it into four areas.
Throughout the necropolis it is common to find figures, which from my perception represent winged beings that represent the eternal rest.

Thanks for your nice comment friend 🥰, I was missing a jewel of our architecture, and now that I know it I share it

It is true that the cemetery is a sad place but Columbus deserves to be admired for bringing together so many works of art of great beauty. Very nice all the photos amiga🌻💐🤗

Yes my friend, I looked at it with art eyes and although it may sound strange, I have to admit that I enjoyed the tour: the architecture is really incredible

Visiting cemeteries is not something I like, but seeing the outstanding architecture of the necropolis and its peculiar design makes the visit a different experience, nice pictures.

Greetings!

I also had a hard time adapting to the idea, but I assure you that it is worth the visit to this place, it is full of art

what a beautiful place I love to visit.
I don't actually going to cemetery, I don't just know the reason.

Yes, I know we don't normally schedule a cemetery visit for each other, it's a little weird. But really, this place has incredible architecture. When I walked in I tried to look at everything with different eyes. And there are still more wonders to show....

It's nice to appreciate art in this way, nice pictures friend 😊.

Thank you so much for you comment @eumelysm 🥰, it is a place full of art in its architecture

I love the subject of macabre sculpture and architecture. It seems to me that this trend is underestimated, because it's very beautiful!

The appreciation of art is influenced by many cultural issues, but I particularly appreciate it in all its manifestations. Thank you for your comment @anastasialin 🥰
