Today, I present to you one of those old residences that has survived the passage of time and has been recently restored. This place is called 'Fiñe Gallery'. This building is located on Amargura Street, relatively close to Plaza Vieja, one of the four main squares in Havana, around which most of the houses were built. Something that strikes me and that I imagine has to do with the cheerful and uninhibited character of Cubans regardless of the time, is the striking color of the houses and their facades, always with bright and cheerful 🌈 colors. Also characteristic of these constructions are their large windows and wide wooden doors. This house has a huge double wooden door, with bronze veneers, very beautiful. The cistern is located in the center of the courtyard, precisely to store rainwater. This is a fairly large space surrounded by columns, for me it is the most beautiful place in the building. Several families live on the upper floor, where the living quarters are located, accessed by an interior staircase. Personally, I really like this type of architecture, they are with high columns, lots of space and large interior courtyards. The space here has been very well utilized, and the galleries under the large arches of the courtyard have been converted into areas where photographic exhibitions and other works of art are displayed. The ceiling is decorated with several wooden slats that harmonize with the whole building. This is also a characteristic of this type of architecture. The gallery is open to the public, and the kind lady who takes care of the place explained several things to us, for example, when they started the restoration work, they found on the ceiling of the entrance and staircase an ornamental drawing with Arab elements. This drawing was part of the original decoration of the house, and it was decided to preserve it as it was. This is the most distinctive element of this place, I found it beautiful. Also, some wooden furniture can be seen adorning the surroundings. The whole place is very cozy, spacious, fresh and cheerful. This building, like many others, is a reflection of the residences of Old Havana, where its design tells us the story of how life was in the city in the past centuries Cuba. So far my publication today, I hope you enjoyed learning about Colonial Havana. Cheers to all Architecture lovers.
Inside the place there is a large courtyard, with many ornamental plants, and I was surprised to see a well. These deposits have been used for hundreds of years to store and keep rainwater, which was used for consumption and daily life. It was the first time I had seen one, and when I peeked inside I remembered the story of the 'Wishing Well', so I mentally asked for one for myself 🤗😀🤫.
