make a minimalist hanging cabinet/// furniture design

I just want to say hello for every one who are love architecture and design, maybe this is my post after a month of not posting in this community, it was caused by several things that made me not have content to make posts and also there were some other things that made me a little busier than last month .

As usual I make a post about the furniture I work on in my workshop, as in the title I wrote on the furniture this time it is a hanging wardrobe or also called a hanging cabinet, this is an order from a close friend of mine who is currently studying at one of the colleges. who is in my city and he rented a boarding house for him to live in while studying there.

Hanging cabinets are very suitable to be used in boarding rooms because they have advantages compared to ordinary cupboards, one of which is that hanging cabinets save more space because they are attached to the wall not on the floor so that the floor underneath can still be used to put other items.

I made this hanging wardrobe according to his design because this wardrobe will be used together with his roommate and he also asked that I make a hanger under his closet to attach his clothes, this wardrobe measures 80cm high and 37cm wide and 160cm long and has four doors , three doors have a room with one partition in it and the other one has two partitions, maybe some of you want to know how much it cost to make this cupboard?? For the materials it costs approximately $65 for 2 pieces of 18mm plywood, 8 pairs of hydraulic hinges, door pulls, cupboard door locks and screws and paint.

In making the project this time a little more complicated compared to the wardrobe project that I did last month because on the back of this cupboard I had to make a wardrobe hanger so that the cupboard could be attached to the wall, so let's see how I did it through writing and photos. which I will show.

But first I want to show some photos when I bought plywood at the woodshop because I was very impressed with the contents in the that shop, there were so many neatly arranged plywood and various sizes and when I went there happened to be a cargo car carrying goods to the shop.

So let's move on to the process of working on this project....

For the first stage is to split the plywood and cut it to size;

37 x 80 cm = 2 pieces (for the right and left)

156.4 x 37 cm = 2 pieces (for the top and bottom)

*34.8 x 76.4 cm = 3 pieces (for internal partitions)

*34.8 x 37.5 cm = 5 pieces (for partitions in each room)

Then I split 4 pieces (for left and right top and bottom) half of its thickness as a path to insert 4 mm plywood as the back wall of the cabinet and then I started assembling it, first I assembled the bottom with the left and right by gluing and screwing and then I inserted the 4mm plywood into the groove that I made and then screwed the top.

Then I assembled the inner partition and at each top of the partition I cut it so I added plywood as a holder for the closet door and for the inner bulkhead I didn't screw it but I used a small elbow as a holder so that it could be removed and then I added plywood on the inside. around the cabinets at the top and bottom so that the cabinet doors look parallel and do not appear outward and this will make the cabinets look nicer.

And the next stage is splitting and cutting the plywood for the wardrobe doors. This process must be really accurate so that when the cabinet doors are installed it will look neat and precise, then I make holes in each door using a hand drill to install the hydraulic hinges and then I start installing all the doors on the cabinet and adjust it until it is really precise.

And then I split the plywood with a 45 degree slope 2 pieces that function to hang the cupboard to the wall, one piece I will glue and screw to the cupboard at the top of the back and the other will be attached to the wall when it is installed on site.

And then I caulked all the screws and waited for it to dry and then I sanded it.

And after everything was finished I sanded it so I continued to the painting process for this project I used a compressor to paint it and all the doors that had been installed I took off again so that the painting process was easier for me to do.

After everything was done, I painted, I started to reassemble all the doors and also put the lock and pull on the door and waited 2 days for the paint to dry completely.

Next I took the cupboard to where my friend lived and installed it but I delivered it at night because I didn't have time to deliver it during the day so the photos were a little dark.

For the installation process, I first drilled the wall to insert the bolt hook and then installed the plywood that I had split 45 degrees as the wardrobe holder, then I drilled the wall again at the bottom of the cupboard for me to insert the Dinabolt as an additional retainer so that the cupboard really hung with strong.

and that's the explanation of the process of making my project this time I hope you can understand it and if maybe my explanation is not understood I hope you can understand it through the pictures that I show and I thank everyone who has taken the time to read my post and I hope you like it,,,,,,,have a great day and see you soon!!!!!

Wow! Such a detailed furniture creation experience @lancang! In fact, I don't even need to read your words and by simply viewing your photos, I could already follow the step-by-step processes of the project assembly. The hanging cabinet may look simple on the outside but entails a lot of complicated joinery work on the inside. Well done! 😊

If the overall material costs would total around $65 (Is this in US Dollars?), how much do you usually charge for labor? Do you typically calculate by percentages of the material costs? Are your professional fees and other service payments packaged in your proposal to the client?

I'm very happy to hear that, thank you very much for the support..

yeah the amount of this fee is in US dollars, and for the work cost of this kind of wardrobe I usually calculate the number of doors per door $ 8 and for this cupboard the working fee is $ 32, and that includes the installation of cabinets on site ...

Amazing! Thank you for your informative feedback @lancang. Keep up the admirable furniture projects! 😊

what I want to ask is how much capital to make all the furniture

the total cost of this cabinet is $97 and that includes labor costs...

Friendships empower us. Imagine a friend who rented a space and now he sent you this piece of furniture. I think he would have been delighted with your work, right?

Your furniture is neat and beautiful. If you lived in the same continent, the same country, the same city, I'm sure I would ask you to make a similar piece of furniture for me.

Is there any strange or peculiar piece of furniture you have been asked to make?

I think he would have been delighted with your work, right?

yeah, I think he's really happy to see it...

until now there hasn't been any weird or odd furniture requests for me to do but maybe in the future I want to try to make my own weird and unique furniture...

Incridible post, informative, clear and easy to understand by everyone. In fact, people who don't really understand furniture.

this is a post, without having to read it. But I understand what is being conveyed from just looking at your photo series.
Btw, what is the maximum load that can be stored in that cupboard? I saw it was hung, can it hold the weight and not fall?

With the hanging system in this cupboard I'm very sure that this won't fall, and for the maximum load it will probably be able to hold 40 kg not including the weight of the cabinet...

Thanks for visiting my post...
