My new home

in Architecture+Design3 years ago (edited)

Some of you may know that I've been nomadding around with no fixed abode since the middle of December. Since December, I've stayed in 1 hotel for 2 weeks, 4 Airbnbs for 6 weeks, and gone on 1 cruise holiday for 2 weeks. During these 10 weeks, my new place was being renovated and it was finally completed a month ago. I'm pretty chuffed with my new place, as it's the start of another chapter in my life (more on that in another post).

Entrance
I live in an upstairs flat and this is the view looking down to my hallway and front door. When this photo was taken, all the upstairs floorboards were done, The stairs and downstairs were not completed yet. The hallway is quite long, about 5 meters if I remember correctly. I figured if I used the same floorboards as upstairs (I was going to use the same for the stairs), the whole flat would be really boring, so I opted for a stark contrast.

I went for a retro look using laminated flooring. It was the simplest way to make a bold statement and for the hallway to stand out. For the front door, I choose a dark grey colour, to complement the rest of the floorboards. Some people like a warmer colour on their front door to make it feel more homely and welcoming. I wanted a darker colour as it feels more powerful and secure. Without blowing my own trumpet, all my visitors so far (ok,the rest of my family 😃) all like my hallway! They thinks its really nice.

If you noticed, I've hung a picture up on the wall. Normally I'm not a big fan of hanging pictures, mainly because I have crappy art sense, and I don't like hammering too many nails on my wall. In this case, there was already an existing nail on the wall, so I thought why not? The picture was a limited edition freebie from a pack of beer I bought some months ago. There was a choice of 9 to choose from. My favourite one was the top right, but hubby liked the bottom left one, so being the good wife I am, I went with his choice. Do you think it goes well with the hallway, or do you think one of the others would be more suited?

Living room
This is the living room, or what it used to look like during renovation.

And voila!! This is what it looks like now. I have kept it basic as I wanted a minimalistic feel, I figured the more furniture I put in, the more junk I'm going to collect. I didn't choose the colour of the wall, it was left over paint mixed together. This was the last room to be painted and it wasn't worthwhile to buy another pot of paint so we ended up mixing white, magnolia and something else we had hanging around. The result is quite warm and relaxing. It doesn't match my blue and yellow theme perfectly, but nothing is perfect in this world.
20220416_125102.jpg

The blue and yellow theme comes from my blue sofa which I've matched with yellow cushions. I even bought a yellow lampshade which has a reflective gold inside and emits a warm light. The plant is the lates addition from yesterday which is not present in the photo above which I took a few days ago. When I showed my sister the above image yesterday, her first reaction is that the living room needs some green. And I totally agree with her. My brother in law gifted me his rubber plant which I'm told is very easy to take care of. I think this looks perfect as I have enough space in the room to take a large plant. Even if it grows taller, which I hope it will, it won't over crowd my living room.

More art work
In my living room I have a blank wall, I think it used to be the fireplace that is now covered up. Some people put a massive TV there to make it the focal point of the room. I had to choice to either keep it blank, or to make a statement out of it. I opted for the latter, and had the perfect idea for it.

Hive has been a big part of my life in the past few years, and has open many new worlds to me. NFT being one of them. A few months ago, you may (or may not) remember I posted about buying my first NFT. It was a project developed by @martibis called 256 Art. I ended up minting quite a few pieces so I thought why not bring the virtual to the real world. The style of art was perfect for my minimalistic living room and I had picture rails in my room. No nails were needed!!! Originally I wanted to print 6 individual images to create a photo gallery, but the cost of printing and framing 6 images worked out a bit too expensive. In the end I went for one large 50cm x 75cm print in a 61cmx 91cm big frame. I was so excited when the print came, but a bit gutted that I didn't space them out so the individual images would stand out more. Told you I have crap art sense.

Anyway, it is what it is, and I'm so pleased that I have a bit of Hive in my new place. Nothing better than bring virtual to reality.

Congratulations on having a permanent home. It looks great 👍

I like the hallway, especially the floor, its very cool. I think the paint in the living room goes well with everything. I'm surprised that you achieved that by mixing leftover paint. I've never heard of doing that and I never would have thought that you could achieve that look by doing it. The color looks very intentional. Well done!

It's a blend of white, magnolia, which in is the standard colour we used in the rest of the flat plus not sure what else my brother in law had lying around as he's the DIY man behind all this. Great use of leftovers and saving a few pennies!

Yeah definitely a great idea. Smart. Looks awesome too!

It looks awesome! Very neat, cozy and minimalist, exactly my style :) I´m sure you will be happy there :)

That's so cool that you framed the NFTs. Congrats on the new place, looks great!

Thanks @littlepiggies, luckily the NFT fitted perfectly with the style

It looks great. Congrats and the best luck on this new stage 👏

Thanks Sergio!

Happy new home @livinguktaiwan, that looks cozy. You did a great job renovating the living room. I don't want to have nails on my wall too, but if there is already one on the wall, I will definitely hang something up.

Might as well make use of the nails as they look ugly and unsafe bare. Even a simple photo will make a difference. I can imagine all the great photos you take would look really cool on your wall at home

en México le decimos el nuevo cantón

Canton = home?

WOW... you've done well fixing it up!
Kudos~

Credit goes to my brother in law who did the renovation, he's the DIY man

Lucky you! (I suppose it is free)
I have no DIY in my blood!
Hehehe!

I love your front door and especially your hallway floor!

Congratulations on your new home. I wish you lots of happy years there!

Thanks Fiona. The hallway is my favourite area, its normally filled with shoes and coats though, doesn't look as sleek as this 😄

Your new home looks so nice. Congratulations!!
I wish you a lot of happy moments in the years to come living there 😊

Thanks @coquicoin! The only drawback is lack of outdoor space, but as I said, the world isn't perfect. Just have to accept as it is.

A small outdoor space is always appreciated, but you can also have some plants in pots that grow well indoors, which, although not the same, can add a touch of green.
Enjoy your beautiful place! 😊

........and relax!

Yup, especially having a sofa to sit on after two years 😄

nice, it is a great feeling when you finally make it, I was in that sort of place last year, so when i got back into my man cave, the feeling was sheer bliss!

Really cool idea with the 256 art nft, I bought one on opensea as well as I somehow missed the minting process, may just steal your idea!

or wait for posh pets NFTs ;)

I was 90% pleased with the results as it's so sleek with bursts of colour to liven things up.

When's posh pets coming out?

I love this section, it makes me feel at home just by looking at it.

Very nice! I dig the blue and yellow in the living room. I’m sitting on a blue couch right now as I type this. I think the wall color actually goes well with the blue yellow theme. Gives it a bit of contrast but still familiar. Love the NFT print idea. Enjoy the new home man.

Hmm interesting what the beer company is doing. Like a ta gable NFT.

Very nice! I bet it will be nice to have a home base you can always come back to after all of your travelling! I really like the renovations. It looks like they did a nice job. I agree about the furniture thing. My wife and I don't really have much furniture or nick nacks because then that is just more stuff you have to dust.

hello @livinguktaiwan. I'm so glad you're in your new home. It has been a very good start for you. People get excited and happy in their new home. I also like light-colored parquet in flooring. It opens up inside. It has a very clean appearance. It also goes well with yellow and blue. The sofa in the living room looks great. I was blown away by his rank. I wish you to live happily and peacefully in your new home 🙏 love 🤗

Wow! Happy for you Pauline on the completion of your new home, congratulations! That NFT framed artwork looks neat, blending perfectly with the interior design. 😊

May your home bring you happiness. The place we live in should give peace and tranquility, yours has become a warm and friendly home with very important colors. I really liked this. I learned that the pictures we hang at home, the trinkets we use, and the energies affect our lives. They become our reality. I wanted to share this note. May the miracles be with you 🪄

Congratulations, your efforts were worth it. Now fully enjoy your house, it is very beautiful.

Yay Pauline after all that time living out of your suitcase you are in your home. It looks great too! Nice tile and love the blue and yellow. So fun that you are brining your crypto world to your home too. What a great post. Will be looking forward to seeing some good plant pictures in your home!

Aww I love your new home! Blue and yellow brings out a modern feel anyway so the look of all the colors together work well.

Hive has been a big part of my life in the past few years, and has open many new worlds to me.

Love this and resonate with it! 👆🏽💯

Sweet idea on the framing the NFT’s and definitely adds a special touch.

Congratulations and enjoy your new comfortable place ~

So is the new place going to end up and someone's AirBNB too?

No, will be staying here for a while, lets see how things pan out.

Guess will take time to fill it up.

Wow, what a beautiful design, it looks very cozy and perfect to live there. Thank you for sharing this beautiful work with us.

Realmente quedo la casa muy linda, me gusto mucho el piso color gris claro y el cuadro en la entrada le da un buen toque.

The house really turned out very pretty, I really liked the light gray floor and the painting at the entrance gives it a nice touch.

Congrats on your new home… must be nice to settle down a bit after so many wander around since December. It looks gorgeous.
I like the idea of framing the NFT.

The retro look with laminate floors looks very nice and appropriate, great that you feel comfortable. I think the picture goes well with the hallway, also in terms of the colors. I also always keep it minimal so there isn't too much clutter haha :)

I agree that there is not much stuff in the house. It looks messy. The fact that you put a painting right in front of the chair also adds a different atmosphere. They usually put a tv unit. I like the color of the seat. The living room has a spacious open look. I think it looks good on the front as well. Congratulations. Nice share.

Congratulations! It’s a a great space!

Congratulations! Place looks really lovely and a great space to chill in.

PS are you sure 'nomadding' is a thesaurus entry under 'dossing' ? ;-)

The NFT idea was really cool. The house looks great. Congratulations 🎊

Woohoo! Congrats on finally moving in and adding your stamp to the property! The entrance is really good, I like the tiles and I am a fan of greyish colours 😊

Congratulations! The house looks great. Enjoy the new space.

Thanks!
Just saw the drams on your post. Madness!!!!😟

Never a dull moment on HIVE!
