A Greek cross as a museum - Una cruz griega hecha museo

Two days ago was the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of one of the most emblematic museums in Venezuela, the museum of culture located in the city of Valencia. The construction of this museum has several stories, one of them is that it took a total of 10 years to be inaugurated because being so close to the river, its basements were flooded, something that still happens today 👀

Its unique cross-shaped design led Jorge Castillo, the architect of the work, to be awarded the regional architecture prize. This architectural work of the 80's had a recent recovery work, in fact, the whole area was recovered and beautified since in previous years this area had been forgotten. They built a restaurant and beautified the square which has brought back to life the museum of culture and its surroundings.

I had the pleasure of visiting it recently, this being my third visit, but this time it was not open to the public so I dedicated myself to capture some shots of its facade and appreciate its design which reminded me a little of the tree to live of the architect Fruto Vivas in the city of Lechería as it seems to have trailers or suspended cubicles, but these are much larger. I would have loved to see it from above to appreciate its Greek cross shape, but I found this old photograph of the museum with a view where its design is totally distinguishable.

Museum of Culture seen from above

The surroundings of the museum are in very good condition, which pleased me since I had the knowledge that years ago this area did not even have good lighting at night. Something that characterizes the museum is that there is a small hill outside where children usually play and go around from the top to the bottom, I do not remember doing it during my childhood, but I have friends who have told me that they used to do it. One of my recent visits was in the month of December and I was delighted to see many children playing and people enjoying the spaces, the hill now has artificial grass and is perfect for an afternoon with family or friends, even for a picnic, these pictures were taken on a Monday so there were not so many people, but I still saw young people skating, people on bikes, walking their pets and others just chatting and enjoying the sunset.

The location of the museum in the center of the city allows you to enjoy a beautiful sunset that reflects the shapes of other great architectural works such as the cathedral of Valencia which I was able to capture in a photograph next to the color palette of the sunset. Something I loved about the design of the museum is that its entrance and part of its sides have a mirror effect during the day, this reflects the blue sky and everything around it, but at nightfall you can see through them into the museum.

I really enjoyed this visit to the museum because it is the first time I visit it during the day and I can better appreciate its details from the outside, next time I promise to show you its design from the inside and maybe go down to the basement to check if it is still flooded 😂 What did you think about this walk outside the museum of culture? I read you in the comments, virtual hug to all ❤️

I have taken a tour of several museums in Caracas, but I still have several to visit, I hope to visit most of them this year. We are close, I live in Valencia

uh huh, Oh i see, well i hope you visit the museum soon, one more time why no LOL 😄

As you mentioned, there is a great outside area to watch a beautiful sunset, have fun with the kids. The surprise is to hear that the floor below is flooded. I think it would be more appropriate to think about it before building a museum near a river.

Yes, I think there was not a good investigation of the soil before building it because nowadays the basements cannot be used since they continue to flood.

Beautiful museum, the design is curious and the figures that are located in the green areas, I liked the benches and their particular designs related to music are very original, a place that deserves to be visited.

Happy weekend!

I also loved the design of the benches, although I felt that because of the height a child running could probably hit his head, let's hope that doesn't happen haha Thanks for your comment ❤️

Oh it looks lovely and like a fun place to hangout. Even if it's closed for sure people still enjoy going there like you did.

Yes, I saw a lot of people around even though it was closed. A good place to spend the afternoon ✨
