The city of Koggala has ancient exotic and modern architectural elements.

Hi my fellow Architecture lovers,

Greetings from Sri Lanka. I hope everyone are OK in this beautiful weekend. As an active member of this platform, I am going to present to you some more tourist hotels with beautiful architectural features. Yesterday, I was allowed to go to the Magistrate's Court located in Kamburupitiya area for a duty. On the way, we had to pass by the Koggala area which has become a tourist attraction. A few recently built tourist hotels incorporating beautiful architectural elements caught my eye near the Koggala area. I will show the beautiful designs that have been explored in this content.

First of all, I will present information about Hotel Kabalana, a beautiful hotel that was built near Katalua area. I am proud to inform you that all the amount of cement used for the hotel kabalan built a few years ago was provided by the company I work for. Window frames covered with opaque glass are made in square shape. The wood carvings above it were not traditional Sri Lankan shapes. The brown color applied to this is more attractive. Outside of that, the design painted on the wall with golden shapes is the most spectacular. The top of the concrete pillars on the ground floor have spectacular shapes. There were two gates for entry and exit.

The hotel is spread over three floors with a beautiful color scheme. A viewer from the main road can see architectural elements of spectacular finish here.

I forgot to say. Egyptian architectural features and elements characterize the exterior of this elegant hotel. The sculptures of the mummies in the Egyptian pyramids show this. Indeed, these mummies exude a sense of life. After turning on the lights at night, you will definitely get that lively look. I concluded that the architects who designed this hotel were those who had studied Egyptian architecture.

The displayed name, Hotel Kabalana, is plastered on a wall with stone fragments in attractive shapes. The stone wall shows the hotel's authenticity. An Egyptian mummy logo has also been used as the hotel logo. Kudos to this hotel management for reminding us of an old civilization in another country.

A small pond with pet fish was attractively finished in front of the hotel. Beautiful stone slabs affixed to the front wall surround this pond. A water transport system was added inside to clean this water frequently.

There are several Egyptian mummy-like statues in front of this hotel. It is an old architecture which gives a very attractive look to the hotel. The shape of the clothes, facial expressions and weapons of the statues are truly unique. As we continued further, we saw another building in addition to this main hotel building.

Sculptures of soldiers guarding the pyramids can be seen on either side of the entrance. To show their strength, the topless male body is well-groomed and lively. Such vibrant statues also add to the elegance of the hotel. However, my whole heart was captivated by these ancient Egyptian architectural features.

20230113_161215.jpg

In the meantime, another tourist resort with beautiful architecture was built next to the road. It had no roof. A concrete slab was built instead. The transparent glass windows have been given a beautiful look by applying blue curtains on the inside. The resort has also got a shiny look by painting the sturdy doors in brown. The balcony part is covered with wood and the hanging light bulbs are sure to bring more charm to the night.

20230113_161141.jpg

I observed a resort called Canela Resort which showed attractive modern architectural features in gray mixed with white. Instead of the roof, the concrete slab concept was also used for this. The striped pattern drawn on the gray wall adds a glow to this building. The use of glass for balcony areas on upper floors shows modern architecture. Glass is also used for room doors.

The star-class hotel The Fortress, complete with architectural elements, located in the town of Koggala in the southern province, caught my attention next. This name has been applied and used because it is shaped like a fort. The entrance door here is designed in Dutch architecture. The two front lamps are also Dutch style. The solid wooden entrance shows the grandeur of the hotel. I knew that the interior of the hotel was designed in Dutch architecture because I had stayed at The Fortress once. But today I don't have the photos taken on those days. That's because my memory chip is destroyed.

Strong wood is also attached to the circular section above the entrance of The Fortress Hotel. The blue color has added brightness in proportion to the shape of the door. Just like the old Dutch fort in Galle, behind the entrance, another gate was created in the same shape as a reminder of the Dutch colonial period. The Fortress Hotel has two doors designed in the same shape and color.

In The Fortress you can see the shape of a fort built more than 500 years ago when Sri Lanka was in the colonial period. It is planted with palm trees and has a well-maintained small garden. Over a large space, this hotel building wall covers.

20230113_161523.jpg

I am curious as to whether this was built after the Dutch army invaded Sri Lanka because of the presence of the same windows as in the Dutch forts of Galle and Matara. Perhaps a fort built at that time may have been modified later and used as a hotel. However, the introduction of foreign architectural features in such tourist hotels not only increases the tourist attraction, but also provides an understanding of the architecture of other countries.

20230113_161619.jpg

The State Bank of Sri Lanka building known as Bank of Ceylon was built in front of The Fortress Hotel for the convenience of tourists. I was most attracted to the shape and bright appearance of the windows on the upper floor. It was noticeable that the concept of Varna Sanyojana was better used in this state bank.

20230113_161753.jpg

Next I observed The long beach resort which looks like it was built using very traditional architectural techniques. This hotel also appears to be very old. Made of old clay bricks that have not been repaired, its old appearance may attract tourists.

20230113_161608.jpg

*Similar features to the architecture used to build the Dadella Light House Hotel can be seen here. Clay bricks are laid on the walls and highlight a traditional shape. It is surprising that this hotel does not have windows facing the road. Perhaps the windows and doors facing the sea may have been made with the aim of offering tourists the pleasure of the Indian Ocean. I will come back again with another various architectural designs.

Interesting neighborhood of Koggala @madushanka. Of all the remarkable buildings there, the Hotel Kabalana definitely caught my attention. Its peculiar exterior design, particularly its Egyptian-inspired architecture made the difference! Congrats to your employing company for being the cement supplier of that hotel's construction! 👍

Could the hotel owner be Egyptian? Or perhaps they had a previous history of traveling to Egypt and collected inspiration from there, thus also influencing its Architect? Just curious. 😊

Congrats to your employing company for being the cement supplier of that hotel's construction!

Thanks for wishes @storiesoferne.

The owner of the hotel is not Egyptian. But he must have been very interested in Egyptian history. He has studied Egyptian architecture and tried to bring a different kind of diversity from it. Interior architectural features the hotel are very attractive.

My pleasure @madushanka. And yes, I agree that the hotel owner must have some sort of Egyptian influence that has inspired them to create such a splendid masterpiece of hospitality architecture. It's most probably one of their best selling points to attract more guests. 😊
