Hey, fellow architects. I am going to aquaint you with an age old Indian Architecture technique which is earthquake resistant!
This technique being vernacular was adopted by the people residing in Himachal which is a mountainous region prone to earthquakes.
It uses locally available Timber and Stone to construct basic walls and partitions for the house which also makes it economical.
It uses basic rectangular or square planform on which the Stone and Timber were laid to create the basic structure.
It also is an inhouse heating provision which doesnt use any external resource but functions due to the storage of grains and placement of Cattle in the ground floor creating an insulation to the upper levels of the house.
I found it very interesting about how the locally available material was used by the residents to create an engineering marvel which had earthquake resistant properties.
If you want to learn more about the technique, you can ask me here in the comments!
