I've been living in this house for five years, and one of the main reasons I decided to rent this place was because of the balcony. I find it extremely cute, cozy, and inviting. It hasn’t always looked like this, but with my love for decor and my passion for creating beautiful spaces, it has become more and more welcoming.
When I first moved in, it was completely white and stayed that way for about a year and a half. Even though it was well decorated, the walls were still white—until I decided to paint them pink. A bold, vibrant pink. After about three years, I started getting a little tired of the color, and the paint itself was wearing out. That’s when I realized it was time for a new makeover.
But this time I decided to go with softer tones. Somehow I didn’t want to lose the pink essence of the walls at all because I feel like they really represent me. So I just painted them in a lighter shade of pink, a baby pink if we can call it that, mainly because it was a color I already had at home. I didn’t want to spend money and wanted to make the most of the materials I had.
I painted two of the walls in this soft pink, kept one in the original bold pink and painted the other in a shade called cream ice cream, a very light yellow. The light pink walls are the most interesting part of this balcony because they frame the windows. And what I love most about these windows is their rounded corners, I find them so charming and beautiful.
Lately I have discovered that I love painting and drawing on walls so my entire house has become a blank canvas for my experiments. I decided to create drawings that followed the shape of the window frames, painting green branches with leaves and then adding roses to complete the design.
This renovation ended up taking much longer than I expected because when we start a project, we don’t realize how much work it’s actually going to be, and it was a lot. Not so much the part of painting the roses, but covering the damaged walls took quite some effort.
As I was painting the roses, I started feeling like something was missing, some detail. So right in the center of the windows, I decided to paint these red hearts with a few rose branches extending from them. I think this painting turned out really beautiful. It’s without a doubt my favorite one I’ve ever done on walls.
I’ve posted a few other paintings here before, and I love how this one makes me feel when I step out onto the balcony and see it, knowing I created it myself with my own hands.
Since I didn’t have much experience painting directly on walls with a brush, I started by sketching everything in pencil first. It’s easy to erase in case of mistakes, so it gave me more control. After making the markings, I painted over them with the actual colors.
I used wall paint, which I know is more expensive, but it was what I already had at home, and I didn’t want to spend money on new materials. For anyone who wants to do something similar, acrylic paint works really well, as long as it’s for an indoor area. If the painting will be exposed to sunlight, then wall paint is definitely the better option.
And that’s it. I hope you enjoyed this painting, and I can’t wait to create more things around the house to share with you.
