It's quite an interesting experience indeed to encounter the humble beginnings of sacred sites like this church of Santa Geffa. Aside from being places of worship for peasants and farmers during the ancient period, these religious spaces were also known to be purposely built underground for the mere reason that early Christians during Biblical times resolved to escape persecution for practicing the faith - thus hiding in secret from the outside world.
