A long journey starts with a small step, a big river starts with a small mouth, and a big city starts with a small settlement. Each of these "fading" wooden houses was part and parcel of a big city.
Hello, @frank1in. Great to have you back! I love how you applied an analogy to your statement above. Everything has to start somewhere, right? And when it comes to the humble origins of a city's initial development, these wooden houses share architectural stories that exemplify its significant history. During a bygone era when concrete, steel, and glass were not common building components, the versatility of wood was one of the strongest, most functional, and highly available construction materials. It's surely fascinating to witness their long-term endurance against the ravages of time. And these spectacular wooden houses simply justify that claim. 😊
Absolutely agree! Wooden houses perfectly show the source of the modern city. At that time, people built cozy wooden houses and tried to decorate them in all possible ways. It is amazing that wooden buildings are able to stand for such a long time. Although I am convinced that with proper care, these houses can last for more than one century. Nowadays, there are practically no such houses, because it is more practical to use concrete and brick (or foam blocks) to build a modern home. Perhaps that is why strange wooden houses are a rarity that is interesting to pay attention to! Thanks @storiesoferne all the best!
