By the way, I wonder if you ever get attached to a place from time to time? Even though that place is not our home, yet, every time you visit that place, you feel that a part of you is there?
Yup! I have one. The name of that place is BLOK M. Of course, I don't need to tell you why it's called BLOK M, not BLOK A or Z. This time, firstly, I really want to express how much I love this place. BLOK M and I have known each other since 2009, which means we've been together for decades. LOL.
I believe every person has their own attachment to a place. What makes my story exciting is that BLOK M has a tourist destination that is a favourite among young people. Actually, it's not exactly called a tourist spot, but it's better named as an artistic corner.
M BLOC SPACE
So in a corner in the Blok M neighbourhood there is an artificial corner that is a corner for contemporary culinary. This corner is then named as M Bloc Space. To enter this area, there is no charge, however, there is only one rule that must be obeyed by visitors. All visitors are prohibited from bringing in outside food and drinks.
From the front facade, M Bloc Space will look like a row of old houses and shops. Like an old town style. There is a large m bloc written at the top of the entrance.
Then, after passing through the security post in charge of checking the visitors' luggage, we will be presented with dozens of frames on the wall. This is the iconic photo spot of M Bloc Space. These frames are a collection of places that carry exciting themes like M Bloca, which are scattered in various big cities, such as Bandung and Solo. There is also a brick-red partisanship. And a pair of chairs with high backrests.
MACHINE EXHIBITION FROM THE PAST
In this place, there is a hall that is specialised for certain events. So, M Bloc Space is not only used as a culinary tour in the style of South Jakarta children, but also often used for literacy or arts and culture events. As I was about to head to the hall where the talksshow was usually held, I first looked around the printing press or handpress from the 40s.
- Handpress Printing Machine
This is one of the Degel handpress printing machines made in Germany in 1918. This machine was taken from Ismaratul Ichwan printing house in Bukit Tingg. Then borrowed by Orips printing in 1946 to ‘49. this machine is used for 1 Rupiah printing machine.
- JPC Fasbender Cutting Machine
- Intaglio Handpress Machine
In addition to tools from the past, there is also a scales which is probably for weighing in that era.
HALL FOR EVENTS
As I mentioned above, that this place is often used for events, this is how it is usually used. It consists of one floor with tribune-style seating, and leaves a mezzanine at the back. The venue is accessible for visitors with wheelchairs.
Looking at the ceiling of this space, this place might have been some sort of functional warehouse, or even a production site for certain goods. I don't know, there is no further information about the history of this building.
Leaving the hall, visitors immediately encounter a hall with sporadically arranged seating. I sat here with my friend, we talked a lot about writing, and so on. This hall combines the printing press exhibition room and the hall with a cafeteria in the right wing.
- MINI BAR
At the back of the cafeteria is a hidden corner that turns out to be a place for people who want to drink alcohol. The utilisation of a narrow space is aesthetically pleasing. At the edge of the wall, a small wooden table is set up against the wall. The chairs used are high-legged chairs without backrests.
However, on the other side of it is installed with a box table and a long chair chair also without a backrest, this place seems to be left alone part of the wall. Deliberately to give a vintage feel. Used bottles of liquor are installed as additional display.
Many other corners are unique, among others ... a seat in the form of a row of short chairs. However, that is not the point, but the background of the seat. If you look closely, the blue colour and golden yellow tinge of the paint is like maestro Van Gogh's painting Starry Night. I immediately felt that the painting was inspired by that of course because I love Van Gogh. I love him very much. LOL
Then I took a selfie with my friend. Before finally deciding to go home. That's all about my trip to M Bloc and sharing the variety of design and architecture here. Thanks for reading.
Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.

Incredible architecture becomes even more extraordinary when it's loaded with design elements that compel the senses. Combining the best of many worlds: an art gallery, a museum, an events hall, and a food hub, no wonder the M Bloc Space has emotionally connected with you @titisnariyah. ☺️
Absolutely. I feel like all the things I love are spilling out in one reach. Sometimes when I'm feeling melancholic, I almost think of Blok M as my secret lover...☺️. Thanks for the appreciation, @storiesoferne have a nice day!
What a gorgeous landmark @titisnariyah! That interesting place certainly embraces all the necessary experiences for creatives searching for an artistic atmosphere of architecture and design. Cheers! ☺️
Exactly, it is not wrong if Blok M and its surroundings are indeed the place where South Jakarta artists have grown since ancient times. Thank you for your support, @archmoments
Blok M will always be a fun place to visit. I have wanted to go to M Bloc for a long time but until now it has not been realized. Even though it is very close to home.
Totally agree. It's been a long time since we've been to Blok M, the last time we ate at the Bulungan food street area was in January. This place is indeed magical
Can't wait to hang out with you there again.
